    Parents Unsupervised training

How old is your DD? How many girls are in her training group? What are their ages / levels relative to your DD? My boys are in the same training group, and to keep the athletes working, their coach will have the athletes in groups of 3 or 4 on different apparatus. He will work closely with the...

MAG Training hours for 9 year old

It really does depend on the kid. We have one son who got an overuse injury when he increased to 16 h, and another who was fine at 16 h but started to get issues at 20 h. Some of their teammates had similar issues crop up as hours have increased, but some haven’t ever had any type of overuse...

MAG Training hours for 9 year old

Similar schedule here. My younger son was at 16 h/week the year he turned 9, then moved up to 20 h/week the year he turned 11. Most days during the week he comes home from school, eats something quickly, and heads to gym. When he gets back home ~9 pm, he has another meal and then goes straight...

    Gymnasts Inflexible Shoulders

Another thing to consider is that sometimes it can be more about how you’re using your muscles than flexibility When you do your handstand, are you pushing into the floor with your hands? My son was told he had tight shoulders, but the real issue was he didn’t understand the mechanics of how to...

Anon Parents of 2 gymnasts - advice

I’ve got two boys, two years apart, in the same level this year. Younger son has more natural gymnastics talent, although my older son is coming into his own now that he is starting to get stronger (puberty). My older son said one day that he wished he was as strong and flexible as his brother...

    Parents Preschooler Afraid

One of my kids literally cried during every parent and tot class for an entire session. Sometimes it was epic meltdown level … red faced screaming “I don’t want to!!” I’m sure you can imagine. I told him he didn’t have to do anything he didn’t want to do, but that we weren’t leaving the class...

MAG Workout wear at your son’s gym

Just wondering what your boys typically wear to practice? At my boys’ gym, it t-shirts and shorts. The WAG athletes are all in leos (obviously). I’ve followed a gym in Russia on IG (they have some amazing young guys training there), but what I notice is that all the boys wear singlets and gym...

MAG Spieth Ring Tower Wobbly at US Classic 2023

I noticed it too. Doesn’t look normal to me. The tower at my sons’ gym doesn’t do this, but there’s another gym that hosts competitions that has a wobbly tower (not on a podium, just mounted on a concrete slab floor). My kids complain about that wobbly setup each time they compete there.

MAG Boys Home Training Programme - Feedback - Covid Addition

I'm just a parent (not a coach like the posters above), so you can take that for what it's worth. But I would say that your program is way too intense. And I totally understand that you want your son to succeed (what loving parent doesn't want their child to do well? It's a natural thing), but...

    MAG Home Training

My boys are doing workouts with the other MAG athletes from their gym via zoom. Three 40 min workouts a week. Plus next week there is a 1 h workout for pommel for the kids with a mushroom at home. And another 1 h workout for those with a chin up bar at home. Other than that, they do stretching...

    MAG Ways to improve flexibility

Also to add: I had to explain to him exactly where he should be feeling a stretch when getting into different positions. Turns out he was going into some stretches but wasn’t actually stretching anything. ‍D’oh! Kids! Also though it’s a bit annoying that none of his coaches made sure he was...

    MAG Ways to improve flexibility

I thought it would be a good idea to update my son’s progress. With the COVID shutdown, we’ve had more time to dedicate to his stretching. I also did a lot of googling to try to figure out what might help him. (I took him to a couple of people who really had no idea what to do for him. So...
