JoyAvenueMom, I agree. When you're a little girl who's been living with the sometimes excruciating pain of severs on and off for a year, then it goes away and THEN it comes back again, "it will go away" or "it is self-limiting due to the nature of the condition" isn't actually all that...
Totally agree, OzZee and Faolmor. The mind boggles about why someone thought it would be a good idea. I wonder how sales of that particular outfit are going?
I've found that a great way to treat severs is to get another injury that forces the gymnast out of the gym. Sigh.
Rest. Rest. Rest. It does work.
The extra injury IS a rather drastic solution though.
Another Australian reply. In summer, it's crop tops and shorts. As it gets colder, the leos come back. Then colder again and long sleeve leos. Then colder again and long sleeve leos, leggings and even tightly fitting merino tops on top of all that (particularly for early morning and late evening...
Day 2 of a gym comp, my daughter did the same vault as the previous day. I thought it looked terribly bouncy (which didn't seem right to me!). However, she scored much higher that day. We still look at its bounciness and wonder why...
My point is, I wouldn't have a clue what's good and what's...
I have practiced "bribery baking" in the past too. I took GF, DF chocolate brownies to the school staffroom on the second day of the school year some years back. Best thing I could have done. The teachers and support staff loved me. :-)
I have also done it in the past for coaches too. "I've...
My daughter went in her first "big deal" competition last year. She did miles better than I thought she would. I was so terribly proud of her - she overcame injury and injury "blues", and even overcame a desire to give up part way through last year. At one stage we never thought we'd see her...
Presstohandstands, look up Dave Diggle. He's based in Sydney, an ex-gymnast (Great Britain) himself and is a sports psychologist. He travels and also does Skype sessions if you're not nearby him. Highly recommended. He is pricey, but good.
The idea of starting your own gym in place of the old one is an attractive idea, but unless you've got an awful lot of money behind you, it's not practical. Or easy. At one stage I ran some numbers on this and wondered how anyone can make money out of a gym. Not that you'd necessarily be wanting...
The current system isn't working, with the limited funding it has. It is extremely likely that with a lack of results (or perhaps even qualification to the 2016 Olympics) that funding will be even further cut. For those programs which are significantly funded by government money, that's going to...
I think it is "interesting" that WAG high performance training was decentralised from Canberra, yet it is centralising again by stealth, with VIS becoming NCE... You're really forced to move to Melbourne now, if you want to be even looked at by the powers that be. (Or be in WA.)
In Australia, we have this thing called "inappropriate gesture" which can be used for point deductions in a routine. Maybe you have it in the US too. One judge we know uses it for gun hand shapes, blowing a kiss to the judges, bottom wiggles etc. I hope that your daughter never gets this...
