What is the source of your data? Is this something that you compiled yourself? Just curious.
It is data that I have complied from a variety of sources and created a site/product to better understand gymnastics. The site provides information such as metrics/analytics across all gymnasts levels and locations. I sent you a message with more information.

How is the # of gymnasts per state figured. Is is all L10 gymnasts? Remember that only a small portion of them are jr/seniors
The state is determined by the location of their gym. The initial numbers covered all L10s the subsequent we're filtered to gymnasts that were recruitable. No 2024 commits have been announced.

how did you figure who was recruitable if you don't know their graduation year?

This is going to sound less than encouraging but if a Level 10 competes for an NCAA program, the announcers, media and crowds will go crazy over the known "former elites" and "regular" level 10's swim upstream trying to get traction. It doesn't change, and really is magnified. Media talks 90 percent about the elites and the rest are almost afterthoughts.
That is frustrating. Especially considering how talented your gymnast is. But yes, the media will likely talk more about the Olympic champion as opposed to the other athletes on the team. I will say, the gymnastics media I read and listen to for sure talked about your kid too.

Also, where are you getting commit info from. Not everyone has committed yet for 2023. and not everyone (especially walk-ons) announce their commitments so you won't know until the official rosters come out.

My initial comments were for the first chart you posted, which clearly were way off base for percentages and for the scores. For the scores, did you include "0"s in those figures? If so, that's not accurate. You can't count a score that didn't take place. I just now saw the charts you posted later and these make a little more sense but I know from my state alone, they are still inaccurate.

Bottom line - Working the numbers for how many programs there are, multiplied by how many slots they have available, there is roughly 250 for D1 and additional 20 more for D2/3. Any given year there are roughly 500 L10s of all levels graduating. A good number of those don't even entertain the thought of continuing gymnastics in college. Yes, there are many elites as well from various countries but they don't sckew the numbers much.

As with all data, it is not perfect and probably not complete. That is simply a fact that needs to be considered whenever we use and consume data. As far as my data set, here are the numbers of active gymnasts with graduation year. I am always working to improve my data but this is just one aspect of the overall data used for analysis. I hope this helps explain things better.

Overall data set (~95k active gymnasts) there is a 91% coverage of Level 10 graduation years. Level 10 is the primary one concerned with graduation year because of the recruiting aspect of things. The missing 257 athletes are in process of being populated.

so this includes all us gymnasts? I honestly am asking. My daughter was a level 8 graduation year 2028.. so is she included in one of the 17 gymnasts? Am I reading this right? Lol sorry if it is obvious!!!

This is a bit of a spinoff, but if someone wants to do college gymnastics, how important are camps and how to narrow them down? It would be a big expense for us to do more than two camps that involve travel and given that gymnasts need to target a considerable number of schools....how do other families do this? Can you get a spot on a team without having gone to their camp?
Jill Hicks Consulting did a FB live on this about a week ago. I found it very interesting.

I understand the difference between Olympic Champion and everyone else for sure. Just to be clear I never said that media didn't ever talk about my "kid", I merely made the point that if my DD hadn't had the results she had she might have been invisible. She was also called "that athlete" and Leanne Wong by announcers because apparently all Asians look alike.

I am so sorry to hear that about the announcers and your daughter. It sounds like she is an amazing athlete/ person and certainly did not deserve to have anyone talk that way about her.

I am now thinking I misunderstood LJL07. I thought they were asking whether D3 meets are getting more competitive. I now see they could have meant the recruiting end. In that case, No, most D3s do not make it to nationals, at least not in the competitive regions. Now that Nationals has specialists again, you may see this changing a little. Most do make it to regionals, either as AA or specialists. D3 recruiting is getting more competitive but there are enough spots out there that if a L10 gymnast really wants to compete, has a good attitude and direction, and cast a wider net, they can find a team. The bigger question is how affordable is it and is it worth it educationally. That's an individual decision and based on the schools you choose and your goals. dd could have had offers for several walk on spots at D1s if she cast a wider net and was ok with being half way (or all the way) across the the country. She wasn't ok with that so she looked to D3
Yes, that’s what I meant. It seems like D3 is becoming pretty competitive as well, and I was wondering if it was necessary to make it to nationals as a level 10 for D3 programs. It seems like D3 programs also make their offers later than D1 programs?

We are now at a gym that is trying to build a program that is different from everything around here. That is why I have been so vocal. But honestly, a gym needs to produce a level 10 before they produce a HOPES athlete, right??
Nope, not necessarily…..it’s rare, but it happens…..BUT it has not been easy or fun or even easy to stomach sometimes. Yes, we live in Texas, but it’s not the Texas that spits out Elites. I’d be happy to share some insights more privately. I believe some ‘old timers’ on here cautioned me against harsh truths and awakenings….and ummm, yeah
