    Parents TX Gyms?

Hi everyone! I am trying to help a friend of mine. They live in TX and their daughter just finished competing Level 2. They are looking to switch gyms and they want to make the right decision for the long haul. They were very impressed with WOGA, but it's twice the tuition they are paying now...

    Parents Always late to practice

They want them stretched out before warm-ups. And if you miss warm-ups, you don't practice. Period.

    WAG Question about L2 vault

I think I understand what you mean. There is a gymnast on my L3 daughter's team who has this problem. I have seen the coaches put chalk on her hands and make it a "game" for her to leave her handprints when vaulting.

    Parents Always late to practice

We had this issue and I contacted the principal about an "alternate dismissal procedure" for my daughter and we were granted this. Her school (elementary) normally sends kids to the gym for dismissal at 3:30, bus kids get on the bus at about 3:45, and car riders come out at about 3:55. We were...

Parents level 5 bars vs. level 4 bars: how hard or long to learn?

What my daughter struggles the most with in the 5 routine is the free hip INTO kip. It looks like she just doesn't have the endurance quite yet. The other skills came pretty easily to her.

    Parents Difficulty with Vaults

My daughter had a horrible time with her vault in new 4 last year. She was scoring in the 9's on everything and 6's-7's on vault. It killed her self-confidence. By states, she had a mid-8. We ended up switching gyms sort-of-kind-of for different reasons in April and her vault is beautiful now. I...

    WAG Issue with "Name"

I am all for fun nicknames. For example, at my girls' gym... almost all of the girls have a nickname of some kind of vegetable that starts with the first letter of their first name. So my older gymmie is called Broccoli. If her legs/arms are bent, she's broken broccoli :). I think that my other...

    Parents Big Toe/Foot Possible Break?

Thank you for all of the great advice and private messages, everyone! Her x-ray on Saturday was negative for a fracture, but they said that it can often take several days or even weeks for a hairline fracture to show up. Has this been the case for anyone here? She says that it doesn't hurt that...

    Parents Big Toe/Foot Possible Break?

She has dark brown skin, and it's so hard to see bruising... I feel like it looks like it is, but it wouldn't be as obvious as on one of my Caucasian children (she is adopted). We are going to take her to urgent care this morning just to be on the safe side!

    Parents Big Toe/Foot Possible Break?

My Level 3 daughter just came home from practice and told me that she somehow slammed her big toe down on vault and that it really hurts. The pain is not really in her big toe though. When she bends it down, the pain is actually up the (in)side of her foot starting about 2 of my fingertips down...

Parents Feel my daughter is being overlooked

I will also add that at both that gym and our new one, 7 would be almost on the cusp of being "too old"... not for team, but for pre-team. I have seen a few girls go from advanced rec classes to team (rare, but it happens.. and our gym does do an open try-out for team each year).. but there is...

Parents Feel my daughter is being overlooked

I felt like my younger gymnast was being a bit overlooked at our old gym. She was 5 and doing many Level 3 and Level 4 skills and she was/is super strong and flexible. In her pre-team group, the difference in maturity between the others and her was huge. She is just really mature and poised for...

WAG Mill circle and front hip circle troubles

If this is pre-team at a gym with a strong optional program, I would "trust the process". Sometimes, I catch myself questioning why they are doing/not doing something or the way they are doing it or how little they are doing it.. and then I remember that they produce excellent gymnasts and know...

WAG Need advice from experienced hair masters!

I have tried this style on my daughter, but her hair is so thick that it's almost impossible to get the french braid tight enough and the braid really doesn't show well unless it's really tight. If you're set on requiring a style, I would try for something more simple like slicked back into a bun.

Parents Long commute to gym/gym friends

For those of you who travel far to gym, how do you handle birthday party invites, etc. that will require you to travel back out that way on a non-gym day? Do you allow your child to go or explain that it's too long of a drive for a party? Do you have them pick and choose which are the most...
