    Parents need information

I agree that she will get it but also agree that this won't be the last time it will happen. Be supportive and reassure her that she can do anything she sets her mind to. Although my daughter has yet to be fearful of anything yet, she does however gain and loose skills when she is receiving...

Parents biggest age group for level 3?

I agree it depends on the state but also which children are on track for being competitive in the JO world or even going Elite. At our gym we have several girls competing L7 who are 9-10 yrs. I know for most places this seems young but it has become the norm. for this area. I wouldn't worry...

Parents What to do when coach style not a good fit?

I would observe a practice with this coach. Yelling at the whole group is a common thing, I would tell her that the coach only wants the best for them and it shows they care enough that they do well. It's better than a coach who is disconnected. Every gym I have ever been into especially the...

Parents back bend with legs together?

Before you stress too much about it and since you don't watch practices often (at our gym they do not like the parents hanging around) talk to the coach about it. From what I remember reading your DD is 7.5 yrs, at that age and even the older girls will get information wrong because they didn't...

Parents Prayers for a Gym Family

Such devastating news that sends shockwaves through our community. Weather they were part of this group or not they were still part of the gymnastics "family". My heartfelt condolences are with their family and friends in this trying time. I pray that God reaches down and cradles this family and...

Parents Does anyone else feel the financial pressure?

Oh my.... Don't get me started on braces with gym, our regular bills, one income and this year we decided "hey let's take a family vacation" we then decided it would be a genius decision on our part to put braces on our son, now our daughter who is the gymnast is asking for them.... Oooohhhh...

    Parents Coaches kind words

The other night I stopped my DD head coach to ask how her progression and skills were going. At this point in her training I no longer stay at the gym and watch practices and if I do I will catch the first or last hour, or if I know they will be working floor skills (routines) I'll watch, but on...

    Parents Xcel to JO??

What exactly is Xcel then? We have always been part of the JO program so I mean no disrespect in asking the question.

    Parents Xcel to JO??

Ok I skimmed through this thread because it was way to much to read. I just want you to know I know of 2 gymnasts personally who were X-cel gymnasts ( I actually thought it was called IGC) but transitioned into L4, both went on to become very successful optional gymnasts. They both score high...

Parents Do your coaches use cell phones during meets and practice?

I personally do not have an issue with coaches checking their phones, video taping for training purposes ( some coaches have super cool apps for training) BUT we were with a club that the coaches were on their phones the entire time each one of their girls were competing on an event. If a coach...

Parents Pros and Cons of Repeating a Level

I would say if after several years of repeating levels and the scoring issues are not only one athletes issue, it's the majority. I would seek out better training. Just my opinion. Good luck. Never think your daughter doesn't have what it takes, it may be that she's not thriving where she's at.

Parents A little sad about DDS' gymnastics

Just for the record bullying is NEVER ok! Try talking to the coach, if the issue does not stop and you know of other gyms in the area that are a more positive environment by all means try them out, but be careful.... The grass may not be greener at the other gym. Until you are actually in the...

Parents Pros and Cons of Repeating a Level

Compulsory levels are so important in building a strong foundation for those necessary basic skills on every event. Cast kip on bars, proper round-off backhand spring to even a back tuck and even your front tumble elements starting with a proper front walkover to a front walkover to front tuck...

Parents A little sad about DDS' gymnastics

I know you are sad, I know you want your daughter to move up and be that wonderful L3 that is out there competing and getting on the podium. What you have to remember is compulsory gymnastics is where these girls are going to learn most if not all of their basic elements that will carry them on...

Parents A little sad about DDS' gymnastics

First thing is that both of your daughter have a love and passion for the sport. From what I am getting they both put a lot of effort into every practice when they are there. You answered the other question regarding them struggling with some skills and strength, so my next and final question...
