Thanks @MILgymFAM. The girls are 9 and 10. So still pretty young. The 9 year old's mom is aware. However, she recently sat in on one of the practices and afterwords made a comment like "Wow...I knew she was scared of the high bar but I didn't realize she was THAT scared."....so she understands...
Also, they're terrified even more of strap bar. Because they have more speed. So while the rest of the team is doing full high-bars (minus the dismount obviously) on strap bar...they refuse to do anything but the tap swings. And they're small, at that.
Just frustrated because I've been SO...
What is your gym's protocol for sending kids out to compete? Our gym requires you to have every skill in your routine, no spot, in order to compete that event. Otherwise, you scratch that event.
This year we're faced with a unique situation. We have two level 4s who are TERRIFIED of bars. They...
If any judges are willing to help me out in understanding a score/improvements please PM me or I can PM you!
Specifically - compulsory judge
Thanks in advance!
Floor is our 3rd highest (or 3rd lowest....however you want to look at it) scoring event, but not by much. A few tenths. Scores seem to be really tight on that event, with 0.2 separating 1st and 8th on the podium. We have several kids from each level winning 1st on floor, whereas our top vaulter...
That's a really good point....vault, by far, gets the least about of time during practice. They get 1 hr bar rotations and sometimes only 30 min vault rotations. That is a really great point to bring up....maybe I can just ask if they need more time over on vault, and that I'd be willing to give...
He's a great coach in other areas....he helps coach bars as well and he's fantastic. I think the problem is that they're doing the same things over and over on vault and the kids are making no change....I think they need to do something different, but don't really know how to say anything...
It's not like all our kids are slow twitch. They do fine on floor. I'll admit, we are known in our area as a bars/beam gym...we do have some fast kids. One of our top level 7s (first year) averages a 9.5 on every event, and then only hit 9.075 on vault. And she's been competing a handspring...
Hello all,
Looking for advice on how to approach this situation. We have one event (vault) that is killing both our kids' AA scores as well as our team score - in both compulsory and optionals.
In every single meet that we've been to this year we rank in the very top on bars and beam, top 5...
Hi everyone. Thanks for the awesome feedback. I appreciate it more than you know.
So update:
I had a meeting with the owners Friday night after practice at their house. I basically told them everything that I told you guys in my first post, except I included the exact number of kids that have...
Thanks everyone for the replies. I emailed the owners this morning asking to meet sometime today or tomorrow. I am very nervous as this could very well be my last day at this gym. I am so sad for the kids. I knew the answers I was going to get from this post, I knew the environment was not good...
I should also add that I think my age plays a big role in how they treat me. I am significantly younger (mid 20s) and they really do not include me in anything. We have no meetings. I am told what's happening either at practice or the very occasional email. It's almost like they share the head...
Hello, all. Long time lurker, first time poster.
Currently I am the beam coach at a pretty new gym (going on it's 5th year). Our team is pretty big as we are really the only good competitive club in a fairly large city - next closest good club is about 60 minutes upstate (no traffic). Our kids...
