My second grader has been competing Xcel Silver this year (last year level 3 and year prior level 2). She changed gyms to a rec league per her request.
In recent months she has resisted going to practice for the first time in her life, and started saying things like she just doesn’t like...
Awesome, thank you all! I think she is going on quite a while of a just barely there spot. Like 4 maybe 6 months. I’m not exactly sure. I’m thinking it’s a combo of coaches habit, and DD not deciding that it’s ‘time’ yet.
Is there an average time to get a roundoff backhand spring independently without a spot? My daughter now only needs a very tiny bit of a spot, cheering her on to get it soon. But I’m just curious what is typical?
OH! Yeah when I attempt to have her walk through the routine, it's with the USAG app acting as the model (both the video or the scrolling pics), not me! LOL that would be a sight to see ;)
And it's more of me saying when she gets stuck, OK what's next? In an attempt to earn that muscle memory...
Hi!
It has been my 7 y.o.'s gym homework to practice the order of her routines for quite some time now. She has been resistant to do so with me, but it's crunch time now and meets are here!
I'm trying not to put pressure on her, leave gym at gym, but at the same time, she needs to know the...
It's funny I don't find myself to be competitive but for my child it's more of I want the absolute best for her.
At this point I'm so much Not trying to be her coach, her bar st home is firmly a monkey bar
I almost feel like this might be a good time to watch a practice. I'm going off old...
Thank you everyone!
So very true. I often tell myself we have her in the sport to learn life lessons, not to learn winning. (Sometimes I need reminded and I'm not even a very competitive person!)
It does make the most sense to look forward and train forward even though likely this year won't be...
Well, I'm going off in spring that was the plan (obviously training up over summer can change things), how my daughter can't do all the skills (cannot/willnot do a pullover on home bar but has been doing the linked back hip circle to dismount on it, coaches say she does have it at practice idk...
It's so hard to be a parent.
My daughter is in between levels and I might be one of the rare parents asking for her to repeat the level. Head coach respectfully tells me we can do that but she doesn't think it's the best place for DD, that she thinks she can do next level, will get skills...
