    Anon Clarification regarding gymnastics track

Are they discontinuing their DP Optionals program after this cohort graduates? Otherwise, where do they plan to get their next optionals team without any 5s or 6s coming up? Seems like they may be doing a gradual transition to an xcel-only program, in which case, there won’t be a level 7 to...

    MAG Giants Without Grips

Update: Now that regionals are over, my son was finally approved for grips. There was some concern among the coaches that the adjustment to grips would interfere with his newer skills but he was up there doing front and back giants the same day he got his grips. He said that he feels way safer...

    MAG New quad

I’ve been getting slivers of info from the minutes from the Men’s program committee on the USAG website. From 2/24/24 d. Junior Program – Bhavsar, Klein, Pakanich, Sargsyan iv. The 2025-2028 Junior Competition manual is being finalized. The compulsory programs are complete, and that portion...

Parents Low to high score progression

I suspect that some aspect of the training at the gym is not working for this kiddo, since she is not making progress. Also, I wonder if the pressure to get a certain score is making her nervous at meets and she is under performing. I think that switching to Xcel or to a new gym would make...

    Parents DP or Xcel?

I would never choose a 5-day per week training schedule for my child, unless there was absolutely nothing else on the planet that would make them happy. Training high hours is dangerous and the opportunity costs are massive. Xcel is the better choice for most gymnasts.

Gymnasts Hard time learning to set my flips due to fear of landing in gap

All I can say is that every single little boy at my child’s gym has the same problem. The gap of death makes them all completely freak out. Can you work on tumbling up to the edge and the just doing a rebound onto your back with hollow body into the pit? Take out the skill and just work on...

WAG What do gyms do to warm up athletes?

Ours don’t do anything aerobic to warm up because there isn’t enough space. Perhaps add some jogging into your routine outside of gym to build your endurance.

    WAG “Uneven” regions USAG

USAG MAG regions are being reorganized this year. They are going from 9 regions to 6 and consolidating the less populous regions into a giant geographic region. Our region will now include AK, CO, ID, IA, MN, MT, NE, ND, OR, SD, WA, WY! No more diving to regionals!

The results for the Oregon state championships are available on the myusag app. You can look at which gyms in the Portland metro area have level 8-10 gymnasts.

Parents 13y Adhd gymnast / coach

They are telling you that she is not a good fit for that job right now. I’d accept it and pursue other activities. Also, as kids grow and mature, their medications need adjustments. They may be giving you helpful feedback that you can discuss with her doctor.

Anon Navigating frustrating changes in Gymnastics path

I sounds like this gym is no longer aligned with your daughter’s goals. So, either she alters her goals or you change gyms. The gym doesn’t sound that great, so I’ll be you could do better elsewhere. I think it’s time for some investigation. Also, that sibling rule is a total boundary...

Parents Becoming a top gymnast after getting a late start

Just thinking my initial response over again, the exact timeline will depend on her current grade grade in school. If she’s in 3rd grade right now, she won’t need to be fast-tracked to optionals this year to get on the college track. Her path could look something like this: Level 3 in 3rd...
