Parents CNN opinion article on gymnastics and race.

I am so glad my DD grew up in an era where there is diversity in the sport. Now her college gymnastics team has girls from 7 different countries and they are all unique, talented, strong and beautiful. Their cultures are reflected in their gymnastics, especially floor. It makes me happy to see...

    NCAA NCAA choreography

One of my favorite choreographed routines right now is Ana Irene Palacios from Iowa State. Great Latin flavor and she can dance! Yes there is butt shaking too but it's fun! If you have facebook, link is here, her routine at 1:49:20 - Okay tried posting, but you can't embed media. But if you go...

    NCAA NCAA choreography

This might be controversial, and not saying that there isn't room for improvement, but NCAA choreo is lot better than most L10 choreo, and I'll even say most Elite choreo too.

    WAG College Gymnastics

This is very complex and the path is so different for every kid. Unless you are top echelon all around L10, or an elite/former elite, or have a 10.0 start value on vault, scholarships are less likely for a top 36 D1 school, and you have to work different angles for what your child wants...

Parents Gymnastics college team seeker, high school gymnast mom

I can tell you many stories of people we know who did big moves for gymnastics and it didn't work out for one reason or another. I know it does for some, but I don't think it's worth major sacrifices to do so for most. I would just think hard and make sure if fits all aspects of your family's...

WAG Level 10 vault values JO

I had to go through this for my DD as well and interpret the chart - Yurchenko Layout - 9.7 Yurchenko Layout Half - 10.0 Yurchenko Layout full - 10.0, with a potential of 10.1 if its a perfect vault and you stick it

    WAG Haney under investigation

Separate from Safe Sport complaints, but Regarding MG elites policies, yeah, I would not like them either for my child (such as vacation). So, I wouldn't send my kid to that gym. If enough people don't send their kids based on that gyms policies, they will either change their policies or go out...

WAG Longer limbs and Piked Jaegers

I thought it would be interesting to get everyone's perspective on this topic. Do longer limbs (arms) make it easier to catch release moves on bars? My DD is a compact gymnast, as are many of her gym friends. But then there are the girls who have the longer lines/longer limbs. Her group has...

Parents Florida meets at end of February

Ahh. We were at home plate too. Agreed that the music was wonky - we sat in front of the floor where the speakers were pointed and that was better. We didn't really notice the netting as an obstacle. We actually loved the seating - at home plate they were the most comfortable seats ever at a...

Parents Florida meets at end of February

We have done the Gasparilla Classic for 2 years now. I know gymgal said she didn't like it, but our gym loves it. We head down from the Midwest to go to it, and love the set up. They actually compete on the field at Tropicana and the venue is huge. I think it's good experience for the girls to...

Parents new gym parent looking for advice one what to expect

Definitely enjoy it! I wish someone would have told me that when my daughter started team. First, they are so stinkin' cute when they are little doing this sport, and it doesn't last long - either they grow up or move on. Second, it's fun to get into the spirit of competition, but don't take it...

WAG Shoulders & arms and body image

I just started having this problem with my 15 year old. I don't know exactly where it came from but for some reason this year she won't wear tank tops because she doesn't like how her arm and shoulder muscles show. It makes me sad as I have stressed that healthy and strong is beautiful. She also...

    WAG Double Twis

A 2.5 is a D, and a triple an E. My DD is a twister and competed her double twist at L9 to prep for the 2.5 twist. She now has her 2.5 on floor and plans to connect it to a front tuck this next competition season (hopefully as a level 10). DD's grand dream plan is to get her triple some day, so...

WAG HBO "At the Heart of Gold"

I also agree that it is worth watching. I watched it first before my teen, but I think it would be helpful for her to watch it to help protect herself if ever in an uncomfortable situation. If you followed the news on this, it was true to form, but hearing more details from some of the survivors...
