    Parents Fly-away meet tips/suggestions?

Make sure she has her grips in her bag BEFORE you leave the gym on the last practice before the meet! She “always” has an extra set of broken in grips in her gym bag but left both at the gym before her first meet and the gym was closed on the day we were leaving!

    Off Topic I quit

Is it a specific breed you’re interested in? Or a specific puppy that’s ready to go home by a certain date? If it’s a breed in general, maybe you can put the goal for saving the $700 on hold, and prioritize saving the $70 for the skates. You can offer to do chores for cash to cover the cost...

    Parents Best Advice

I’ve never thought about it this way! Although I don’t ever say anything about gymnastics being a sacrifice to my gymnast (because I don’t want her to feel guilty or burdened in any way), I do sometimes think to myself that we are giving up a lot in terms of time and using the money elsewhere...

    Parents Best Advice

What is the best advice you’ve received or given to a gymnast/family? Mine was something I actually read here on CB: Let it be theirs. Their sport, their journey. It’s incredible how often parents at the lower levels inadvertently take the joy out of gymnastics for their kids without...

Anon Missing a basic=should this be over?

Just wanted to add that it took my daughter forever to get her ROBHS. She was the last one on her team to get it, but once she got it she did it beautifully. Competing Xcel took the pressure off, and she did do a few private lessons to help her confidence. I just kept telling her that she’ll get...

Parents Need help with DD to Change Gyms

We recently switched gyms as well, and my daughter was reluctant at first. I was also worried about the grass is not always greener, but I followed my gut after many conversations with my daughter. She now thanks me and is thriving in her new gym. She has improved so much and is excited about...

Parents Jelousy hate and rage from teamates and parents

Even if the parents are being awful to your gymnast, the coach should lead by example and set the tone for the gym. Professionalism and good sportsmanship is something I want my kid’s coach to model. I know it’s hard to watch our kids suffer, but I would fully expect the coaches to make it very...

Parents Jelousy hate and rage from teamates and parents

I would be really concerned for many reasons about how toxic the environment is for your daughter, and I find the coach badmouthing his own team and their parents to a new family especially concerning. I can’t imagine that will help your daughter’s isolation or feeling like she is part of the...

    Parents Choreography Cost?

I imagine cost of choreography at that level is highly dependent on cost of living in your area. Edited to add: We live in a high COL area and generally pay higher costs for everything when compared to other areas, including gym fees, summer camp, school, housing, etc. The coaches who do the...

Parents One Thing Every Gymnastics Newbie Should Know?

Great advice so far! Remember: It’s a marathon, not a sprint. It’s so exciting to watch your child excel at something they love, but stay grounded and don’t get caught up in the next skill, the next level, etc. Let it be your gymnast’s sport, and let them set the pace that is best for them as...

Parents For those who have changed gyms…

Thank you all for sharing your experiences! There were a few gymnasts who left our small team around the same time, so I can see how that could sting, especially if they thought the group who left planned it together without including them. That wasn’t the case but I can see how it would appear...

Parents For those who have changed gyms…

Just wanted to add that I understand in certain situations people may be badmouthing their previous gym and would understand the anger in that case, but we left on good terms with gratitude for my gymnast’s time there.

Parents For those who have changed gyms…

I’ve remained friendly with parents who have left our gym and our school. I certainly don’t expect to sit together at meets but I’m surprised at the animosity and taking things personally that another parent chooses for their kid ‍ Thanks for all of the responses so far! It’s interesting to...
