meet
Hi Gr8flipR,
Congratulations on doing so well. Did they have a separate category at the meet for adults, or did you just compete with everyone else? Did you feel 'weird' at all being a little older than the other gymnasts? How were the spectators?
I wonder if this adult gymnastics...
new skill
Ok all you Nadias out there :),
I started an adult class about a month ago and I landed a front tuck last night on the trampoline. Pretty basic skill, I know, but wow did it feel fantastic!

Thanks BlairBob,
It looks like there really is no substitute for spending time in a handstand position to get this skill down. I'll need to work on tensing my abs and back harder; I'm very comfortable with handstands against the wall, but my lower back does kinda sags a little bit in...
thanks
Thanks very much to all of you for your help. Excellent suggestions and I hope to post a picture in a few months(:)) of me doing a solid handstand!
Jerry
Hi,
Does anyone have any thoughts on the best ways to develop a good handstand? Perhaps it's just one of those skills that just takes a long time to master, and if that's the case that's fine. Right now I'm just practicing kicking up and trying to stay vertical (which for me right now is only...
Hang in there
Hi Nicci,
I'm way behind the rest of you - I started gymnastics training about 3 weeks ago with a class. It is very frustrating to me as everyone else in the class can do acceptable tumbling runs except me. I feel weird going into the gym as an adult, but I really enjoy class...
2nd class
Well, I went to my first class last week and it was great! There was one other guy a little younger than me, 1/2 dozen college age girls, and a couple of moms(!). I'm definitively the newbie there; besides the core work we did floor all night, mostly work on front handsprings...
wish me luck
Looks like I'm going to do the class thing too - I'm taking the plunge this Tuesday night at an adult's gymnastic class. The instructor told me it would be 20 min core, 20 min tumbling, and 2- minutes other (rings, pommel horse, bars, etc.). This is really hard for me - I'm 49...
sore wrists
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had any training ideas for wrist strength/flexibility? My wife is training both handstands and Lsits on parallel bars and the thing that hurts her most is her wrists. She's been training for over 8 weeks now - I had thought she would have worked...
best wishes
Hi kyliesmith1,
It's pretty funny to hear you say that. At my house, it's the exact opposite. I have developed a recent deep enjoyment with gymnastics and most of my family probably thinks I'm nuts. But, my wife is actually starting to train with me now a bit; and it has really...
encouraged
Little Lady,
I'm very encouraged by your post. I thought I was the nutty one here - I'm 49 now but I'm in the best shape of my life (thanks to gymnastics strength training) and I am looking forward to some adult competitiions in a few years.
Jerry
thanks
Thanks little lady! I really appreciate it. I don't have her doing any pushups right now, so I'll add the ones you're suggesting. She can actually hold a nearly vertical handstand against the wall for 30 seconds - doesn't sound like much but it's amazing considering where we started...
home training
Hi Gymnasts - I was pretty blown away by the last Olympics and pretty much fell in love with gymnastics. I'm 40++ so I'm a bit sad about the years that I don't have available to train anymore. Anyway, I've been training to increase strength and flexibility on rings, pull up bar...
just started
I have to laugh! I'm a 49 year old guy and I just started trying gymnastics - at this point I'm doing strength training work with rings and static holds and I absolutely love it! I train at home right now but I'm pretty close to the Parkettes gym in Allentown, PA. I see they...
