Just keep in mind that Towers and Apex are deep into Suffolk county and would probably be a 2 hour commute (each way)at that time of day from Manhattan. Not realistic for the OP.

Maybe a regional thing (NY metro area), but in 10 years of competing my daughter and her teammates never wore makeup until they were about 15, and then was only mascara.

Exactly. I few years ago I asked my then 12 year old about a few "insta-famous" gymnasts. She had no idea who they were (but I did, so that was a moment). The only accounts she was following were Olympic and college gymnasts, and people she knew from her own gym world.

Not only the coach, but you also, should watch what you say, no matter how well intended. I sadly made this mistake when I thought I was being helpful, but even just a few words had the complete opposite, and negative affect. I wish I could take them back as I feel terrible about it every day...

No, it's modified. But closer to states they ramp it up again. The kids who make states around here are all on club, so they are getting lots of practice in anyway. It's smack in the middle of meet season.

They have team practices. So all the girls that made states from Suffolk will practice at one of the HS gyms.
