Coaches Priorities for leisure centre program

I was around a couple of years ago but disappeared for a while. I was looking around on the internet and figured what I really wanted was to ask other coaches what they thought. So here I am back! I'm looking for advice on prioritising equipment for purchasing, and also on using the things I...

A new this week I accomplished.....

So I'm sort of back in the gym, in that I'm having a proper go trampolining. I've always played around on it coaching, but never had any formal coaching until july, when I started joining the last hour of an adult class after work. Basically loved it, and it is so much easier on my back and...

Coaches What did your gymnasts achieve today?

i just had to bring this back, because of a beautiful, long, tight RO BHS. This gymnast had beautiful lines and excels on beam and bars, but is a little lacking in power, so we were a little concerned that she would not get this soon enough to compete. Today she just went and did it, no...

Coaches Where do arms go on springboard contact for vault?

The way it was explained to me that I understood was basically 'We want arms behind before they hit the springboard, coming forwards (hip to chest) as they hit the springboard. We tell them arms behind on the springboard. No gymnast will fly face first into the vault if they can help it, and...

Coaches What did your gymnasts achieve today?

Today two gymnasts did giants on strap bar all by themselves, and 2 have their front tuck off beam. The RO BHS have taken a step back, however, and are very inconsistant. Hey ho, they will come.

new gym: spring floor vs rod floor

There is a gym close to me which has a foam block floor and a sprung strip and they definately have gymnasts competing a half twist. For floor routines they stop the music, go to the strip to tumble and then come back. As others have said, it's not really safe to not have any spung floor...

    One Arm Backhandspring on Beam

A likely cause is you are twisting your hips in your split jump, so when you land you aren't completely straight on the beam to go into the one hand backhandspring. When you do your split jump keep your hips completely square and in a straight line across the beam, so you should land exactly as...

DD's second pre-team class didn't go so well. Not sure what to do.

Seriously, I would give it at least a month. The down side of once a week classes is that a week is a long time for someone so young, so it's easy to lose progress (gymnasticsly and socially) between lessons. If the coaches, especially the HC is not concerned there is no reason to be worried...

Coaches Level 7 afraid of giants - struggling on bars

Is this a training group issue, or a competing issue? If it is a training group issue, wherever she fits best. If it's easier to modify the level 7 workouts for her, keep her there. If it will be easier to modify the level 8 or 9 workouts, move her. I don't see why she shouldn't continue to work...

'Normal' clothes for a gymnast shape

It's so true. I haven't been training seriously for about 5 years and it seems like the gymnastics shape is staying. I suppose there are worse problems to have! Anything that fits at the thight or shoulder is far to big at the waist. When I was 12 or so I would tell everyone that I was setting...

Coaches What did your gymnasts achieve today?

All of the new competitive gymnasts got their back handspring on trampoline this week - 2 on monday and 2 on wednesday. They are really neat, too. We have been working RO jump back a lot so will go for the correction at the end of this week. I'm excited!

    Ticket applications open today worldwide

I have 1 qualification round. Very disappointed as we applied for all 3 rounds in all the price bands to stay all day, and also 3 of the finals. I suppose it's better than nothing, although not knowing who will be in each qualification round is so annoying!

Coaches What did your gymnasts achieve today?

We have a small group of gymnasts ready for their first ever competition on sunday. It is 2 piece so not too much pressure, but they are very excited. The plan is to go on to compete 4 piece pre-novice in the autumn so the hopefully the experience will be very valuable. They are all also...

Coaches What did your gymnasts achieve today?

Marie - How funny, the upstart we were waiting for came too! It came on monday about 5 times, then only 1 on tuesday but it was there. We were on shiny bar instead yesterday so she did some there, fingers crosses it stays.

    WAG British Espoir Championships

What a shame I only just saw this. I was there for both the elite and challenge competition and really enjoyed it - so many talented gymnasts and exciting gymnasts! For me the full in on floor was a highlight (the gymnast from TNAG - can't recall her name) and some of the beam work was really...
