    Parents Possible switch to cheer

Have a DD who has done both club cheer (only 1 year) and school cheer (several years). Club cheer is often as serious as gymnastics, as others have said, and close to year-round. Even for school cheer - which is lower key and she was able to do with Xcel gymnastics- most coaches don't like you...

How is it where you are?

Same in Illinois - it starts Friday. Not just gyms, but all organized sports including high school

Parents Home gymnastics equipment thesis research

I was so grateful for home equipment when my DD was younger. We had a folding mat, folding beam, a small trampoline, a pull up bar in a doorway. Several years ago, we added a tumble track. The mats, beam and trampoline were often in the middle of my living room. My DD was one of the highest...

Parents Joining a team with no natural talent??

Please encourage her to give team a try. During those long meets, I personally love watching the littles who are putting their heart and soul into a floor routine and leaving the floor with a huge smile on their face. Find the right program who will encourage her and give her opportunity. Like...

    Parents Puberty

Mine only started her period at 14, a full 2 years later than me. I personally think it is related to her athleticism. While purely anecdotal, my own DD only became regular with her period once quarantine started, and I've heard from others that their girls started their period/grew/put on...

Anyone else think that COVID brought the end of gym for your gymnast?

@Flyaway I was thinking the exact same thing as your post this morning. Same age as my DD. Also a gymnast since she was tiny. No motivation to do anything right now. A couple of months ago, she was talking about what her HS gym floor routine would look like, and had goals and excitement about...

Parents Growth during the time off?

YES! I was wondering if I was imagining things. She definitely grew, and now her monthly cycles have become regular (she's 14). We are about 2 months out of the gym, but she was also a distance runner and while she has jogged a bit while at home, she isn't training miles a day like she used to.

    Parents Air track question

OK, got out the measuring tape and also talked to my DD. We only have the 16 foot one, and it is 4 inches thick. She said you can make it more or less bouncy by the way you inflate it. So it can be as springy as a typical floor, or more or less. I was wrong - she can't do a RO-BHS-layout on the...

    Parents Air track question

I believe it is the 4 inch one. It gives plenty of bounce. I can ask my DD how it compares to a spring floor if you want.

    Parents Air track question

Here is the one we have and it has been very good. We have had it for 2 years; 20 feet I think. The price is higher now than when I bought it in 2018. My DD can do a RO-BHS-layout on it with room to spare- she is 5'1". Its been dragged indoors, outdoors, used as a slip and slide, just for fun...

Parents Lets debate State vs States because well just to talk about something elese

And I only heard "state" until I joined CB and saw people talking about "states." At first, I assumed it was a typo!

WAG Level 6 JO = xcel platinum?

Two years at level 6 would definitely be a platinum. My DD also went "down" to gold after level 5 because her new gym didn't have platinums, but now they do -- she also had a bunch of blocks and fears, so it made sense, and she was approved. Perhaps next year this gym will have some golds to...

    WAG High School Gymnastics

I would take feedback from anyone, but particularly region 5 :) I know there will be some differences between states, just curious if anyone else is even out there with a HS team gymnast

    WAG High School Gymnastics

Anyone out there who has a high school team gymnast? My DD is considering trying out for her HS team next year. They use a different type of classification for skills (superior; high superior, etc.) and neither my daughter or I can't find any "cheat sheets" on what it all means. Just when I...

WAG I Don't Know What To Do

Yes, a Cartwheel-cartwheel connected is probably the easiest one. If you can do a round-off, that is a "flight" so you don't need to connect it to anything. As for quitting, no decisions need to be made yet. Try sticking out the season - without mentioning to teammates - and see how things go...
