Yep, some creativity is a must. For example, my DD eats dinner in the car, cleans up right away, and goes to bed, usually in her clothes for the next day, sometimes with a leo underneath. She has her snack and reads in the school to gym ride. In the morning, we leave early and wait in the drop...
I'm so sorry. I have a huge problem with the amount of homework required in kindergarten in some schools. DD's was ridiculous too, but she hadn't started gymnastics by then. This may be a dumb question, but keep in my mind we live in a place with lots of school choice. Is there another school...
DD's gym uses xcel as the path to JO optionals (common in this region). We have some wonderful optionals, a few who went NCAA, but no national team members. FWIW.
I live in an area where about half the schools are year round, so I guess the gyms don't even bother trying to have day practices in the summer. DD just got her schedule, and it's basically the same, just longer practice times to get more hours in.
DD's first "real" competitive season is a wrap. I say real because last year she did rec team as a 2, and this year she competed Xcel bronze. It was a big jump last summer from about 2-2.5 hours per week to 9. There were many times I wondered if she would he able to handle it, and indeed there...
I live in an area where about half the elementary and middle schools are year round. DD only started at her gym last June but practices were all evening, same hours as school year. I'm sure it's different for the optionals especially if they are in high school. Her gym has a reputation of being...
I loved this interview. I have been so down lately, and her openness and resilience really helped lift my spirits. I'm just glad my dd is not by any means elite material. What a life.
I moved from AZ the south, and bras and shorts were so much more common in AZ where it was 100+ degrees for months. It's hot where we live now but more conservative. We were told no shorts once meet season started though.
My daughter used to hate buns, but her hair is so long I couldn't figure out another way to avoid it whipping her in the face. I learned how to spread the bun out well so it doesn't stick out as much, but the poor girl's bun is still almost as big as her head. It's bulletproof though. Sorry for...
This happened at my dd's last meet. She's 10 and was listed as Senior A along with another 8-10 girls. I noticed as I was following the live scores online she was being grouped with Junior B. I thought maybe it was a glitch, but no, sure enough they moved all the Senior A kids to junior B. She...
Please accept my apology for my insensitive words. I'll reply further once I get DD off to school, but I couldn't leave that hanging. Sometimes you tailor words to your audience, and some days it feels like everyone is judging us harshly. I have ADHD too and it was not treated as a kid and was...
Oh my gosh yes. Between gym and a message from her teacher it became very clear that her symptoms are not being well controlled. Her Dr just raised her dose and thinks that should get her through the evening activities, but it's a long time until 7:30. She wanted to try this before adding a low...
She has some anger, and I guess it's coming out there because she's comfortable. No foul language, threats, or violence. She's taking a break for a couple of practices to regroup. My kiddo isn't perfect, but to me removal sounded harsh. I did not mention that she has ADHD, which is another...
They've had a few small meets, and she has done well (as far as not letting it get to her... She has gotten a few medals too). The season officially starts in January. As a parent, I'm annoyed that I've already paid out the nose in addition to being sad for my kiddo.
My DD is 9 and a new xcel Bronze. She is having a tough time in general with her emotions, and it's bleeding over into the gym, to the point that she is close to being removed from team. She doesn't want to quit, but for some reason her self esteem is in the toilet right now. Just looking for...
