    2012 US Olympic Team thread

I'm happy with the team as well. We've got some amazing athletes representing us!!! I felt really bad for Nastia and Rebecca. Just hated to see it end that way for them. :(. But the girls that are going are amazing!!!

What does your gym do with new skills learned at camp?

My DD went to Karolyi's last week as well. She came home and told me she "got" her bhs on beam. Exciting right? No, not at all. She's a 7 yr old level 3 who doesn't even have a bhs on floor! Am I impressed that she can do a bhs with a heavy spot on beam? Nope. She's 35 lbs so she's pretty easy...

For those of you who know dance

DD took jazz, ballet, and character jazz last season. She was on a competitive dance team and did 5 different routines. Can I tell you how happy I am that she has since told me she only wants to do gymnastics from now on!! :) :) :). The dance competitions were so long and got so expensive...

Looks like the only sizes left are child xsmall, child small, and adult medium. I need child medium! Next time I guess- that's a fabulous deal!

    Summer Camp Time

DD is going to Camp Karolyi the week of June 18th. She's going with 8 girls from her team- we sent in all their applications together in the same envelope and requested for them to be in the same cabin so I hope it happens! It's her first sleep away camp so we're hoping everything goes well. I'm...

Parents Competition Readiness (another long post from me)

It sounds like you're describing my daughter! My DD is 7 and competed level 3 last season. She is very high energy and likes to play around a lot. She is definitely not focused yet, not at all. So her scores did suffer quite a bit because she rushed through routines and didn't always have...

    Parents Possible gym switch...

So we are officially switching! I did meet with our current gym owner and discussed my concerns- we were told that they want us to stay but that if we're not happy here we should go. We lost our HC and assistant HC this month. Of the remaining 2 coaches 1 is pregnant and the other has admitted...

    Parents Possible gym switch...

We should hear from him on Thursday. I signed DD up for a tumbling class there a few weeks ago, part of my reconnaissance of the gym, lol. So when we go in Thursday for that we'll meet with him. I just hope he'll let her try the summer schedule for a week. I'm worried that it will be too many...

    Parents Possible gym switch...

So we went back to the potential new gym last week to work out with the group DD would probably be with. It was interesting. The coach looked very young, which was a little concerning at first, until I saw her work with the girls. She was great with them. The group of level 3/4's was small...

    Parents Possible gym switch...

Thanks for the advice ya'll. :) We did get a good vibe at gym #1. We'll check out gym #2 next week. The second gym has a program from level 5-10, with preteam level 3-4 for the girls that aren't ready for 5. It's 35 minutes away though so it'll have to be pretty amazing to be worth the drive :)...

    Parents Possible gym switch...

We've decided to also look at another gym in the area- as someone on this thread advised earlier :). I'm curious- how important is it to look at each gym team's meet scores when looking for a new gym? I think it could be important because it shows how the teams score. But how much weight would...

    Parents Possible gym switch...

We're not moving officially yet. I want to be absolutely certain before I make that decision. When DD worked out with the potential new gym last week the level 3/4's were not there because of a competition. So she practiced with the level 5-10's and the HC. Unless she progresses to level 5 she...

    Parents Possible gym switch...

Update- So DD worked out with the possible new gym this afternoon. I liked what I saw and DD looked like she was having fun. She told me afterwards that she liked the coaches and the girls and wanted to come back. The coach spent a lot of time correcting her form. It was nice to watch him give...

    Parents Possible gym switch...

I spoke with her about it yesterday and she said that she wants to be at gym all the time. Now I know this isn't 100% true because there have been times, and they're few and far between, that she is tired or cranky and I'll let her miss a practice. No use in burning her out at 7! It would...

    Parents Possible gym switch...

Gymtigermom- Thanks for the advice :) Yes I looked into fees. They are higher but still well within our budget. For elvel 3/4 they train 6 hours a week and tuition is $240. At the old gym we were doing 3 hours a week for $98. So it's definitely a change but we're ok with that. The level 5's...
