europe is different because at least germany is "socialist" in sports - clubs are not for profit but partly state funded. sport clubs are just part of public infrastructure (like roads, schools, hospitals, libraries and so on) in this part of the world.

my sports club's fees (also offering gym besides many other sports; gymnasts train 3x4 hours per week) are 270 euros per year for adults, much lower for kids or family membership. competition fees are low and paid by the club. no extra fees for coaching. this is about the norm round here and i live inthe wealthiest part of germany.
Same in the netherlands. We do pay something for competition, at the highest level about 11 euro per meet. Also, parents and other spectators can come and watch meets for free, no entry fees.

We pay about 650 a month for the two girls - xcel, one is 12 hours a week, and one is 9. That is with a 20% discount for YDD, since they discount siblings. Leos we keep for 2 years - we are currently on year two - they were 225. We got new warm ups this year, and those were 150 each. For meet fees, I paid 998 for DD1 and 759 for DD2.

Exactly!! We buy a comp leo and a verification leo that they wear the practice before meets but even it was maybe $50??

Why would even the team girls need a new $120 leo every three months??!?

This is her first gym and I thought that was the norm. Interesting to see that it's not. Of course, the other gym in our area is WOGA so I guess I don't have much to compare to lol. I still have a lot to learn about the gym world. Maybe I need to start asking more questions about things in the future. I just feel strange calling a gym and asking hypothetical questions like how much they charge for Leo's etc. is that something I should do? Again, she's been in gymnastics for 7 months so I'm new to it. I was a distance runner. Much easier! ;)

It depends on a few things:
1- location/region/cost of living area
2-gym reputation/coaching staff

My daughters gym is known, though they don't go through elite, but are known for l10 gymnasts that go to colleges. $340 for level3 and 12 hrs/week.

A smaller local gym with a small squad and only 2 coaches total to the gym charges $180 for level 3 with 10 hrs in the gym.

You will find that gym fees and such are highly variant! Texas is a highly competitive gym state so maybe that's part of it...I don't know. We are at a competitive gym in another region (girls to div 1 teams, most level 9-10 qualified for nationals, had a girl qualify for Nastia Liukin Cup this year) and we pay $290/month for 9 hours plus this summer an optional $125 (total) for an extra 3 hours for 7 weeks. Comp fees/coaches fees/leo and such are rolled into monthly payments that start in August I believe but seem pretty normal from what I've seen.

I think I know which gym you must be at...it is the only gym in the area that has practice leotards that the girls must wear for practice. (Or at least it used to be required) At every other gym in town, the girls can wear any brand/style Leo to practice with no required practice leotards.

We are also in north Texas. Every other gym has the girls buy their own practice leotards of any style, color and brand, and they wear whatever leotard they want to practice.

We do get a new spirit leo every year with team name on it and the girls are told to wear from time to time, but that is it.

my daughter practices six days a week. I can't imagine paying for six of the same leo. And there is no way she could wear the same one more than once before washing. It would be a chalky, sweaty mess.

Christ on a cracker, that's the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of....the national team isn't even required to wear matching practice leos when they're at the ranch....this is seriously absurd.

I agree with you. But I love her coach, the gym is 5 minutes away and most importantly my daughter loves it there. They don't have a booster club or high parent volunteer requirements so I really don't mind and I wouldn't switch her gym just because of that.

…plus $120 every 3 months for a new Leo.
Well, that's a new one! I honestly can't understand the reasoning behind this. It is adding an extra expense that is entirely unnecessary. I think it's awesome your daughter likes her coach and that the gym seems like a good place for her, but I hope it doesn't end up getting prohibitively expensive in the future. It will be a lot of money when she begins competing and training more hours a week, and if you have to get a new leo four times a year on top of that, I can't see that being very affordable.

What is the reason for this leo every three months? Is it to create a special image for the team gymnasts? To draw in more kids from rec because they want to wear the "special team leotard?"

I sent an email to the receptionist asking her a few questions about it. Like I said, this is our first gym and I thought it was normal. As far as the "special team leotard" even the Rec girls have their own leotard. It only changes once every few years from what I've gathered and it's just a plain color with the gym's name on it.

Do they really wear it every practice?? I cannot imagine training 5-6 days a week and needing to buy 3-4 of these $120 leotards 4x a year!
