WAG 1 month out from BIG meet? Practice Structure?

We usually work individual skills up until a week before the meet. Then, we start routines. To keep us motivated our coaches like to make the routines into games where they will give us points for each skill that met requirement, or make a contest where we have to make a certain number of...

    WAG Why a layout flyaway?

Our coach makes us tuck when we are doing the flyaway with tap swings and layout if we are casting into it. She is a judge and says that you rarely see girls that layout flyaway where they are above the bar. Layout always seem to be too low and get more deductions. However, with the extra power...

WAG Music ideas for 7 year old moving to optionals.

I have always wondered how Scenes From an Italian Restaurant by Billy Joel would look for a routine. It has a circus sounding part that would be cute, but you would need to cut it for yourself since I have not seen it anywhere online.

WAG Need advice from experienced hair masters!

Our gym requires two French braids, and you can either bun the bottom or combine them into one bun, it just has to be above the shoulders. I personally like team hairstyles. They make the team look neater and more out together. At my old gym we had a specific hairstyle that was very complicated...

    WAG House Chores

My sister and I help set and clean the table, help cook, help with laundry, and take care of the pet dog. In our family, my parents work and are about just as busy as we are so everyone finds time to help each other out with keeping the house looking decent. We do have a cleaning lady come every...

WAG Level 6 - how many girls do BHS on beam and at least one giant on bars?

At our gym, in order to compete level 6 you need either a bhs or round off on beam. You don't need giants though, just clear hip and cast handstand flyaway dismount.

WAG How to improve endurance? Help!

We combine running and tumbling during conditioning and it seems help all of us with endurance. The group will line up and be numbered. Then, we start running around the floor. The coach will call out "round off backhand spring" and girl number one, without stopping, will run into the nearest...

    WAG Tucks with ankle weights?

We do 4 bhs in a row, tucks, and bhs tucks on tumble track with them on. I hope it's not bad because we use them a lot!!

WAG How does your gym recognize/celebrate those who get scholarships?

We have a signing party where every single person in the gym at that time (even if you are in the middle of workout) will come sit on the floor and hear speeches from the head coach and the gymnast and her parents. Then, everyone gets cake and usually asks the gymnast to sign their grips, leos...

WAG Former D1 Gymnast on American Ninja Warrior

A bunch of girls from our gym saw it and it inspired our coaches to make us a giant gym-wide obstacle coarse for conditioning one day. It was awesome!

WAG How big age difference is your group or gym allow

I'm 17 and there are girls in my group who are 8. It all works out fine and everyone gets along great! The younger girls inspire us to be more fearless and we all help eachother. I would not like it if I was forced to be with everyone around my age. This way is interesting and we can all learn...

WAG Rod floor / spring floor comparison

It is not that much different to transfer from rod floor to spring floor, but rod floor definitely feels bouncier. However, a lot of gymnasts at our gym prefer the spring floor since to rod floor is skinny and they think that they might fall off. At my old gym when we didn't have a rod floor we...

WAG Does your gymnast take any vitamins/ suppliments?

Protein shake every morning but that's about it. I also eat pretty well and try to avoid bad things. I don't eat meat so I probably should be taking a vitamin of some sorry though.

    WAG curious question

I think that it is fine to talk to judges! A mom from gym whose daughter does preschool classes judges at some I our meets and I talk to her all the time. Also, two of our coaches are judges and have even judged us before at a meet. If you know a judge, it doesn't always mean that they will...

WAG How big is your gym

We have two floors, one for Rec and one for team. We also have two beam areas for rec and team. The team area has two low beams, one medium beam, and like 8 high beams. We have two vaults, one into a pit. We also have a rec bar area and a team bar area with 4 sets of bars, two strap bars, a pit...

WAG which event is the easiest to progress for you?

For me, the easiest is definitely vault (but I only can do half ons and front handsprings) and bars or beam is definitely the hardest because of the fear aspect. That is what hold me back most of the time.

WAG open shoulder trainer - tumbltrak

We had one at my old gym it worked well for cartwheels on beam to help not go around the side. It was a little scary but was helpful. My coach would also put it on people who had sloppy form as a punishment during line drills and beam warmup.

    WAG Really good hair bands

I just wear 3 hair ties plus a scrunchie. The scrunchie seems to help. And I add three clips to pull back the loose strands. This way I don't have to spray every day with hairspray since it is bad for your hair.

    WAG 17/18 year olds

I'm 17 and I'm training for level 6 this year. Even though there is not a lot of people in my age range, it is still super fun. I am 5'3 too and there are plenty of people taller than me. We have a level 4 in our gym who is 5'7. So just do whatever level you have a good time doing and it will...
