Hi again! Thanks for all the comments! Been a busy weekend and just now checking CB.
Yes, coach specifically asked for grips with dowels. Don't ask me why. I don't know :) Since it seems like grips are not needed for little hands, or not at all until higher level, my logical guess is that...
Wow, that sounds rough!! :) I don't want to hurry mainly due to not knowing if it's what dd really wants to do (fun factor, did I mention she's 5yrs old? I can't see what I typed via this app). She seems really keen on gym but who knows.
If most of you think it's a better idea to let her...
Hi! I have a 5yrs old who just started in Oct. It's probably equal to pre team in the US. Initially coach and I decided that dd can do without grips (they wanted the dowel grips, not the beginner ones) since her hands are tiny and she hasn't really done gym.
First day she could do three chin...
Thank you soooo much for the list!! As much as I want her to reach her dreams, I rather she does college club than division. I like the list of club universities better ;) I am more academic than sporty :) I may just use the list to apply for a job.
I have a 10 yrs old who never had the Olympics dream. Her only big gym dream is to do college gym if possible. I was a bit more confident last year but now I am not so sure.
We're a military family overseas and because she started gym at 7.5yrs of age, she will never receive the hours she will...
Hello hello!! :) Thanks for all the info! I didn't realize college camps are that popular!! Well, I have a camp, not college, and dd is excited! It's a local one so no sleepovers but, it seems as fun and being local, a lot cheaper. Now that we know, we'll watch out earlier next time and register...
Thank you all! I didn't realize that being in Memphis puts us in the middle if some really great university summer camps! I am looking at Arkansas, Mizzou, Alabama, OKlahoma and LSU. I am a bit concerned about the wrong group deal and not being able to change at FlipFest. That would stink after...
So interesting!! I have nothing informational to add but want to let you all know that I am reading all the answers and find each one very enlightening!! Thank you!!
Ok, a bit overwhelmed with all the options... At first I was going to send dd to FlipFest because it's I just a 10hr drive. But I just found out about all these universities offering camps for cheaper.
Which is best? FF is about $750 and a college camp is less than $500 on average. What do you...
There's pros and cons. I am horrible with hair. If I can have it my way, it'd be a pony tail every meet. But since it's uniform, I have to watch YouTube videos on how to do hair. I hate doing hair :(
Mine has 6, two from gym - a competition and practice. One leo she's been wearing since she was 5.5 (she's 10 now). Only three were bought new. I don't believe in spending too much on stuff like that. Instead the girls have college funds, Christmas funds, savings and even a wedding fund. I am...
I was Googling another topic when I came upon WOGA's page. The page stated that they have 3000 gymnast with 200 competing. That's just 1 out of 15 kids do well enough in gymnastics to compete. You think this is average? Or it's just cause it's WOGA? I think our gym is more 1:4... Or even 1:5...
Same with US, not every club has a level 10 coach... Or optional even :) But it seems like there are more every year! Which is great!!
Yes, you're right on that one top elite. She seems very happy there! She's such a hard working girl and I hope to see her do really well!!!
So if it's the...
Thank you all for the replies!! So many questions and let me see... Dd would tell me who sat out and why. I'd go, "How was gym?" And she'd go, "Fine, but so and so sat out because...." I spoke to so and so's mom and she said her kid's stressed out because of what was said by the coach.
Dd's...
I just found out recently that a few talents have just quit gym. Just decided to quit the sport. While I don't know the one child that well, the other is a good friend off dd (trains different days but they have a good time when given the chance) who loves gym. Then last week I noticed a name...
Well everybody, she linked her thumbs together and voila, 3 BWO in a row! Still wobbly landing but waaaaaaay better than before and massive improvement on the hands holding on to beam! Thank you!!!
Stay tune for the next problem ;)

Gymdog, how do I know about shoulder flexibility? Her hip flexor is average as far as I know. She does square hip splits. We did have a slight turn but it's ok now.
Ok, we're giving it a go!! The interlocking thumb tip seems to work best!
Dd can't see the beam when going back. Is she suppose to or some people do and others don't?
