    Coaches Slow runner

I'm sorry for the long delay, thanks for the posts anyway! This girl I was talking about is 11 yo, 1m45 and runs 20m (standing start, on signal) in 3,94s. These data are from past june. We have tests this friday and I did a bit of sprint training and used the tips you gave me. I'll post the...

    Coaches Coach education

Dear coaches, in the gym I'm working I have this two 'assistent' coaches who I'd like to educate to be a WAG coach. These two girls are 17 yo and I'm giving them a bit of responibility during training. I think the only way to keep them enthousiastic to become a coach is to give them the...

WAG Another Question about Ankle Weights

I wanted to start with the use of ankle weights, but I'm going to be extra carefull now I've read all of this. I think that a correct execution to be safe and not causing injuries applies to a lot of excercises, with or without weights. I've read the whole thread but didn't find anything on the...

    Coaches Slow runner

I'll give you the asked details tomorrow, as they are on my pc which is at work. What time is considered a good time on a 20m sprint, standing start and start at signal (for different ages between 6-12y)?

    Coaches Slow runner

Dear coaches, I need your advise to increase the running speed of a slow runner on vault. When we have tests, her sprint is ok. She not the fastest, but far from the slowest runner. But when we use a trampoline, springboard, plankoline, etc., she can't run as fast as in tests. She has very...

WAG Hip Flexors - how are they used?

When gymnasts perform a backbend or walkover, they have to 'open' their hips to a maximum. With stiff flexors, the hips can't open enough for these skills. In this case there's a little angle (pike) in the hips. So stiff hip flexors limit all the skills which need a open hip.

    Why the long hours?

I'd like the opinion of the other coaches on next thoughts. Obviously kids are starting gymnastics at a very young age. Gymnastics is a very complete sport, but wouldn't it be better to have a more general motoric approach when working with these young kids. I could be possible that a lot of...

    Why the long hours?

Here is a link to an article on the original research, with a link to this research. http://healthland.time.com/2013/05/20/10000-hours-may-not-make-a-master-after-all/ If you Google it, you will find a bunch of links that discuss this 10.000-rule.

Coaches Beam basics (leaps & jumps)

Very good tips, but I would have thought that there would be more consensus on how to perform the different jumps. Off course I understand that every kid is different and we coaches have to be flexible in our approach. So no problem if a kid is performing a wolf jump with left leg in front, but...

Coaches Beam basics (leaps & jumps)

We don't really work with the same level's here in Belgium as you do in the USA. I suppose we're still low level as we are working on basic jumps, cartwheel, handstand and back walkover on beam. Thanks for the interesting video. I liked the link and it brought me to other interesting video's. I...

Coaches Beam basics (leaps & jumps)

Thanks for your reaction 'flipandtwist'. As we boy's don't really jump on floor either, I wouldn't know the different techniques used on floor. I'm not familiar to the English names of the jumps, but here's how I teach the jumps currently: For a straight jump the arms go above the head, but for...

Coaches Beam basics (leaps & jumps)

Dear coaches, as a MAG gymnast and MAG coach, I am currently coaching WAG. I could use some help for beam though, as boy's don't have a similar event (obviously). So my question: are there some tips and tricks you can give me for basic jumps, leaps and turns. Where do their feet have to be...

    World Championships Live Stream

I let you know as I hear something about it from our federation GymFed, as I am from Belgium. Worlds are at a 20min drive from where I live! :D

    WAG Twisting direction

In my opinion you don't look to the round off or cartwheel to dicide on any twisting direction, be it in somersaults, pirouettes,... Find the direction they twist naturally by doing simple test in trampoline and stick to that side. Be sure to keep an eye on this direction both forward and...

Parents Use of time outs as punishment

Personaly I prefer a positive approach, and I think that puniching isn't a way to work on fears. I think that some coaches just punish because they don't know how to handle the problem presented. I think that most of the time when dealing with fears, a coach should go back one or more steps in...

    WAG Wrist pain

We are all listing up the possible wrist injuries now, but we don't even know where the pain is located in the wrist? It's is all good information though, and all relates to what I was trying to describe before. The thing that concerns me is that the pain is already lasting for a few months. If...

    WAG Wrist pain

I'll try my best to explain a few exercises in English. 1) You could work with rubber bands, or weights doing extension's, flexion's, ulnar and redial deviation. The same exersises can be done with help of a coach applying 'pressure' in the opposite direction of the movement done by the...

    WAG Wrist pain

If she would do an X-ray, they should look for ulnar variance (positive or negative). If the ulna is shorter of longer (>1mm) than the radius, than the balance of the pressure being disturbed over the two bones can be off balance. They are not sure if this variance is a cause or an effect of the...

    Internal Server Error

Any idea when this problem will be solved? I still can't post any 'longer' threads (but by far not as long as some of the threads I read here). Thanks!
