    Parents Update and question...

My DD can get overwhelmed by new classes, etc because it stresses her out not to know what to expect and what is expected of her. Especially when she was a bit younger (she's 8 now) and not as experienced at working with different coaches, teachers, etc. So we would make a deal that she would...

Parents Frustrated not sure how to handle...

My DD has been in a similar situation. Last year she was given the opportunity to compete level 2 starting mid season but we didn't think she was quite ready yet and we couldnt afford the fees on short notice. Fortunately the gym let her train with the girls competing and she learned the...

    WAG Lvl 2 bars deduction

DD had an in house meet recently and her coaches had her do a straddle dismount. She got a deduction and is now working a pike dismount to get ready for her next meet. But I was just curious as to what the deduction for that would have been?

    Parents Starting training team

The best kinds of gyms let a girl (or boy) progress at whatever speed is right for the girl. Ideally, a gymnast will score well at the level they are at, learn the skills for the next level quickly and be ready to go for the next season. However, if the gymnast cannot compete the next level's...

Parents Asking if DD can have a shot at staying with current group?

She was on the cusp between 2 and 3, but HC said she could train for 3 over the summer and see if she gets the skills.

Were you able to talk to your coach?

WAG How many hours of conditioning?

My DD's class has been doing a ton of conditioning lately. She was training lol 2 and practiced 6 hours a week (3hours, 2x). Every practice they start by running for 20-30 minutes during which they take turns coming to the middle of the floor and doing things like box jumps and frog jumps and...

Parents Asking if DD can have a shot at staying with current group?

This is the position my daughter is in right now. Moving up to train lvl 3 and training 12 hours a week over the summer or training 2 and only having 6 hours a week during the summer. She knows the routines for lvl 2 and almost almost has all the lvl 2 skills (she needs a fingertip spot for...

I agree, curlformers are amazing. You can get different types of curlformers as well, some that do looser wide curls and some that do more tight spirally curls. But whatever method you choose, make sure you practice ahead of time and work out all the kinks. Good luck!

    WAG The perfect gym website

Thanks for the replies! What about any gym owners out there? What kind of setup would make it worth upgrading your gym's site?

    WAG The perfect gym website

I'm a web designer / developer and one of my pet peeves is inadequate websites. I've noticed that a lot of gyms have subpar websites or are using primarily Shutterfly, DD's included. I offered to take a look at it and make some recommendations to the gym owner about some improvements that...

WAG Speaking of Old Wives Tales, what is the Belly Band for?

If you're curious as to why they use them in ballet classes, it's so the instructor and the student can see at a glance if their hips are even with each other or if one side is popped up higher than the other. Ballet requires that the hips stay parallel to the ground.

WAG Gymnast and coach meet behavior

My DD is on preteam, but she trains with the level 2s and 3s about half of the time. Sometimes, especially with vault, they all line up like at a meet and perform for each other in practice, cheering and clapping. In December we had a rec showcase and none of the rec kids made a peep at all but...

    WAG Compulsory Judging materials

I've heard that they are desperately in need of judges in my state so I have been looking into testing for that. I'd like to get the compulsory materials and study them but I'm not sure what to get. The binder is $60 and the app is $30. But does the app have everything the binder does? I'd...

WAG Christmas Gifts for Gymnasts - From Coaches

DD just got a little gift from her coach, a dollar store stocking with a couple mini candy canes, granola bar, Gatorade, and inexpensive Christmas socks inside. Coach had even drawn her initial on the stocking with a sharpie. DD loves it.

WAG Sia - Chandelier floor routine

Personally, I'm not a fan of the dancing, don't like the original dance either. But what I do like is how much flow there is from one element to another. The gymnast isn't standing in a corner for multiple counts staring down her upcoming pass, multiple times. I wish there was an emphasis on...

    WAG Issue with "Name"

My DD is kind of funny about her name. At home she goes by her full name and a shortened version of it, Maddy. When she turned 6, I noticed she would tell some people to just call her by her first name and didn't mind if others called her by her shortened name. There didn't seem to be any...
