WAG Does anyone have experience with Talus OCD in ankle?

I don't know specifically about the ankle, but Pea had it in her elbow. Both her bone and cartilage where affected (chipped) and it did require surgery. The first surgery they tried to heal it by screwing the cartilage back to the bone and stimulating it. She was no load baring for 4 months...

Parents USAIGC Regional Bar Champ x2!

Awesome job! She must feel over the moon. Pea will be bowing out of worlds (since she wasn't going to even compete this year.) She had a similarly great experience with lots of bling to take home after a long struggle to get back. Her division and age group isn't as tough, and she leveled...

    Parents clicking elbow....OCD risk???

That's great to hear! Very happy to hear she's just noisy ;)

Parents Age verification/birth certificate to compete?

We were never asked at either gym, or either program (USAG and IGC.) For Pea's brothers soccer, however, we virtually needed a signed in blood affidavit. It was a little crazy. Birth certificate (with seal etc, no copies), signed verification, photo for ID cards with no hat or glasses, no...

    Parents clicking elbow....OCD risk???

You're telling me! Luckily it's just him, the surgery faculty etc took our insurance So it's just his bills and we are lucky to have good insurance with out of network benefits. It was a heck of a year and I know she's happy to have it behind her. She's been so happy coming back from practice!

    Parents clicking elbow....OCD risk???

She is one tough cookie! She's proud of her scars, and when the last Dr offered to do some scar remediation while he was poking around she said no way! ;) Dr isn't concerned with some pain, it's actually part of the protocol he has given her. It has leveled steps and with each step if there is...

    Parents clicking elbow....OCD risk???

Interesting, one of the things Pea has been struggling to get back is a back roll extension, it still 'hurts' her. I'm guessing it's because it's the same pushing up, elbows in move. She moved her bhs to the beam last week with no pain though!

    Parents clicking elbow....OCD risk???

She's doing good, been quite the trooper. She did have surgery (3 actually.) Once bone/cartilage breaks there is no other option. Her first surgery was to clean up the fragments and screw the bone and cartilage back together. That ended up failing (it was borderline in size for this repair.)...

    Parents clicking elbow....OCD risk???

We're just on the tail end of Pea recovering from OCD. Our experience was that Pea had absolutely no complaints about her elbow before she had a slip in the backyard goofing around with her brother. Apparently it was lurking there and her fall broke a chunk of bone loose causing her to be...

WAG Handling injuries- what I've learned

I want to add our experience on the rush back to gym during/after injury, with the caveat that she's not a high level gymnast (L6/7). Pea has been not actively training since January of last year. She had 3 surgeries over the last year to fix her elbow OCD. She did go to gym for a modified...

    Parents Recovery from elbow cast/surgery

The first surgeon we used was a pedi ortho, and he was great. It wasn't his fault the fix failed, without getting into all the gritty details it was borderline one repair vs another and he opted for the more cautious first repair. The second one we found through a recommendation from a family...

    Parents Recovery from elbow cast/surgery

Pea is finally on the other end of this right now. She had 3 surgeries last year for OCD in her elbow and each surgery meant gaining range of motion back. As with you her first surgeon didn't clear her for PT, just working on range of motion. We switched surgeons and with her last surgery he...

    Parents USAIGC vs. USAG

Can't really speak to the college thing, that ship sailed along time ago for Pea ;) But she did switch to IGC last year after doing USAG. In our area there are a few other options other than USAG JO (Excel, IGC, and JOGA). Most gyms here offer JO plus another less 'intense' option, possibly...

    WAG Sending kids home

Pea's coach used this method. Totally backfired with her and she would be petrified to go back the next day because of her fear of "not going" (not fear of the skill, fear of the punishment.) We had a LONG talk with her coach and owner (owner did not support this method, Pea was threatening to...

    Parents Picky eater, losing weight

Similar story here. ADHD meds, and already skinny kid, and picky. What works best for us is similar to @auswi Pea has a big breakfast of choice before meds are given plus a smoothie with protein powder added (her current favorite is banana, peanut butter with chocolate protein powder.) I also...

WAG Curious about "Straddle Tap" - when/how to transition?

That's totally Pea! LONG monkey arms, like a gibbon. I have no answer for you as Pea is out injured (OCD surgery) and "should" be working straddles into her giants now. She piked to dismount out of her CHS last year, but never put her giants on real bars. She was doing some drill involving...

Parents OCD of the Knee - any success stories out there?

My 13 year old is also currently recovering from ocd of her right elbow (ironically she's a lefty?) She was diagnosed in Jan after a minor fall left her elbow unable to fully extend and was 'clicking'. Surgery was necessary as some cartilage had broken off. She needed two screws in to attach...

WAG A new chapter in the journey of Puma Jr:USAIGC

IGC is a great choice! I'm certain the Puma cub will love it. Pea was looking to switch (pre injury), gym has both and she LOVES the IGC coach.

    WAG Central NJ gym Recommendations

I would add MG Elite (Monmouth Gymnastics), Head over Heels, Atlantic Coast, and ENA to your list. Look into PA gyms too, there might be some very close to you since you are near the boarder.

    Parents Panner's Disease

Update: First, thank you all for your responses! Pea had her appointment with the elbow big wig, and has an official OCD diagnosis. She's scheduled for surgery next week and will be in a hard cast for two months, followed up with rehab/PT to regain full range of motion and strength. There is...
