Parents Gymnast asked not to return

Sounds about right. I have seen it happen a few times. It is terrible that they do that. Letting the girl go doesn't stop it from catching, the moms and the girls still talk after they leave. True story, I actually know someone who was not truthful about what gym she's from when she tried out...

Parents Has anybody else dealt with judges showing local teams more leniency?

Do you mean in your example it fulfills a salto requirement but not the A/B/C/D skill that is required? Is that what the level mean - A/B/C/D skills? If so, that makes sense to me now. Thanks.

Parents Has anybody else dealt with judges showing local teams more leniency?

Can you give an example of up to level deduction? What does that mean? Is that a start value thing?

NCAA College Gymnastics Schedule (College Gym Talk)

I thought Olivia Kara did a great job! It was a fun meet to watch. Scoring was fair too.

NCAA UCLA Moving to Big10 Conference

Riley will probably move on to NFL the first opportunity he has and leave USC high and dry.

Parents L10 gymnast (The Reality Of College Gymnastics)

Based on our experiences, there is no point in attending college camp until level 10 or at least competed Level 9, for recruiting purposes. At lower levels, you attend for fun, new friends, get a feel of campus, team, the gym, dorm, general location and the city but you likely won't have much...

Parents L10 gymnast (The Reality Of College Gymnastics)

Unless I read it incorrectly, your statement aimed to make a parallel example of job interview to Level 10 competition. First year Level 10 vs 5 year Level 10 would be equivalent to first year job candidate to 5 year job candidate.

Parents L10 gymnast (The Reality Of College Gymnastics)

A fresh out of college job candidate would be applying for an entry level job, and someone with 5 years experience is probably applying for a more senior position. So they don't really compete with one another.

Parents L10 gymnast (The Reality Of College Gymnastics)

I think it has been particularly hard due to the returning COVID super seniors and the Elites/Olympians from the last Olympics in addition to the normal number of elite drop backs filling the spots. There are also many foreign elites. Colleges seem to prefer semi-successful foreign...

Off Topic Commonly Used Abbreviations / Acronyms (from everywhere... ChalkBucket / gymnastics / social media / etc)

There are also skills that have more than one name and I always get confused by them. Flic Flac = BHS Whip = layout? Flic Lay ? I am sure there are others.

NCAA Official 2022 NCAA Championships Thread

When an athlete lands with feet apart, then clap their feet together to salute, without moving forward or backward, without leaning (obvious that they didn't take a step to avoid falling), is that a deduction? and if it ism would it be a .05 or .1 deduction? The TV commentators call those a...

    Parents Meet etiquette

JO meets are so dead because there are only parents there and they only watch their own kids, or maybe other kids on their team. There aren't any "fans" there like college meets so naturally college meets are much louder and fun. I have seen signs, giant poster with athlete's face on it, school...

    Parents Do you record meets?

We have a ritual to watch my daughter's routines together after the meet. She likes to see how she did. We also have a policy to record and take pictures of everything and anything, because you can always purge but you can't go back to capture the moment again. It is also less stressful to watch...

    ChalkBucket Is Secret?!?!

I have mentioned CB and other social media groups by name in conversations to our coaches and parents. I just assumed they knew about it.

Are there any tricks to sticking the landing? I always hear it is air awareness - but what can you do to increase air awareness? Any helpful drills that can be done? Thanks.

    Parents Bone bruise

My daughter had one. It was explained to us that it is pretty much a fracture, but not as severe and usually caused by trauma, not through overuse. It took months to heal and her season was shot. You may want to get clarification of how they define bone bruise in Australia, as it may be different.

NCAA Perfect 10 Thread & College Gymnastics Scoring Discussion

Difference can also be seen in individuals with name recognition, like big name JO recruits (JO national champions, Nastia Liukin cup, etc.), former elites and Olympians. In JO you get a 9.5 with a really good routine, 4 9.5s you make the 38 club. In college you have to make a pretty big error...

    WAG The Future of Elite

I think the public's interest on Olympics in general is waning and it trickles down to the athletes. We are a gymnastics family and only followed the last Olympics loosely on social media. I can't see as a parent how the sacrifice of time, money and social life is worth the small chance of...

    College Gymnastics Forum?

That part is a bit tricky. I think having mods verify roster is one way, but you lose anonymity. Obviously, I trust the mods' integrity in keeping that info confidential, but people may still hold back and not speak as freely. But I can't think of any other way.
