We do the handouts with the schools twice a year and with Chick Fil A about 3 times a year. As for being a friend, we advertise within the gym to our current students a month ahead and send out reminders the week before. If classes are younger kids (typically under 9 yrs old), we do have an...
Yes, for sure! When we distribute the handouts, we include a coupon on it for a discount on the registration fee or the first month's tuition. They bring that in when they register and get the discount. We tend to see more kids join when we've recently distributed the handouts and shortly after...
In my opinion, safety should be first priority. If you don't feel safe and they don't have the appropriate mats to make things relatively safe, then I don't think it would be worth the risk. I know one can get hurt even with mats, but they at least help. I never want anyone to have to quit...
I have a similar position in addition to team coaching at my gym. Here are some of the things I like to do:
Free community open gym on National Gymnastics Day
Bring a Friend Day (friend cannot already be a member...this gets lots of exposure)
Make handouts to be distributed throughout the...
Am I understanding correctly that a gymnast who has competed USAG Level 3 Compulsories last season must enter into the Xcel program in Gold or can they do Silver?
This is all so interesting! I never knew of this until last year. Every gym I've been in has only ever done USAG. This is definitely something to consider!
I know a former gymnast that received a scholarship to the University of Oregon for the acro/tumbling program. She was a very successful top flyer for them. Their program has been one of the biggest, most successful in the country.
Currently, our gym only offers compulsories and lower level optionals. We are a "brand new to competing" program so our girls just haven't worked their way up to the higher levels yet. A lot of our girls are also what most gyms would consider older or too old to begin competing. We are...
I have kids do them off of a panel mat or small block with a spot until they can do it there w/o a spot. I also have them do them on tumble track and into the pit (first into blocks then onto a mat). It seems to get their confidence up.
Does she ever get to watch herself in a mirror at practice? I find that helps a lot, especially with younger kids. If they can see their mistakes, they are usually more apt to correct them. Sometimes kids think they are doing something correctly until they see it for themselves. I also...
[emoji15] Leotards are so expensive! I can't believe they continue to sell them made from this fabric if they know it's poor quality! I will definitely steer clear...thanks!
I guess this may be answered mostly by coaches, but parents feel free to jump in with info & opinions too.
We are changing our team leos & warm ups this next season. It makes me sad because I LOVE our current leo! It's our second year with that one though so it's time for a change. So my...
Hi all! Can any of you throw out some ideas or things you've done that do well for fundraisers for gymnastics? We have done things like the laundry detergent/shower gel fundraiser, yankee candle, yard sale, car wash, & scratch cards. We just need some new ideas. Thanks!
Yesterday we had a meet with our upper level Compulsories. The girls were having trouble during bar warm-ups...slipping off at the end of their kips and one even peeled off during her flyway. The bars were obviously really new so the chalk was not sticking to them at all. I told the girls to...
