    Parents Moving to New Zealand

Thanks for your quick response. We are probably leaving in July but it is still to be confirmed. It is likely to Auckland but yet to be confirmed. I shall contact the clubs you mentioned. How does it work with insurance. In the UK we have to join British Gymnastics (or equivalent) which covers...

    Parents Moving to New Zealand

We are moving to NZ form the UK in the summer. We are still waiting to hear whether it will be Auckland or Wellington. I was wondering if anyone could recommend gym clubs in either of the 2 cities. My daughter is an elite Womens Artistic gymnast, trains 5 days a week in the UK. Also if you have...

    Adopting the new BG levels?

Didn't realise compulsory 1 has been scrapped - makes sense after last year On another note, my daughter mentioned that the bar height had been raised for all gymnasts effective immediately - is this correct?

Some clarification on English Champs qualification scores

Agree, needs to be sorted out for next year. To change the rules just before Christmas, 3 weeks before entries opened is disrespectful to the gymnasts & clubs. Many of the clubs had their main break, ours was closed for 2 weeks even for squads, only re-opened on Saturday. I think there will be...

Some clarification on English Champs qualification scores

I don't think the fact they have brought in a minimum qualifying score or the actually score is the issue, it is the timing plus lack of clarity.

Some clarification on English Champs qualification scores

Couldn't agree more. The rules were published on 12th December, if you haven't met this requirement whether it is due to injury or age, there are no options to try to meet it.

Some clarification on English Champs qualification scores

Q4. If a gymnast will be an Espoir in 2020, but are Compulsory Level 2 (2008 born) currently, they will not have done any FIG events in 2019 to gain the qualifying score of 38.0. Is there any way they could compete at this Championships? A: The organisers have not specified that the qualifying...

    Thoughts on Challenge Cup

It isn't clear, I think they will need to provide some clarification.

    Thoughts on Challenge Cup

She has qualified to the British, she last competed in the British in 2017 but under the new rules needs to have competed at the British in 2018 or 2019 as well.

    Thoughts on Challenge Cup

It was massive but I don't feel people should be shut out, although the score of 38 is a very achievable score. Obviously, a bit personal to me, I feel the timing of the new rules is wrong. Issued 2 months before the closing date in a period of relative inactivity for the gym calendar.

    Thoughts on Challenge Cup

These are after the closing date. The plan was for her to do one of these anyway. For now all she can do is just focus on training. Any communication with EGA needs to be done via the club but I shall keep the pressure on - competing at these competitions was what kept her going through injury...

    Compulsory 3

Annikins - Congratulations to your daughter. I am sure she will love it. Organisation is key for the extra hours especially if you aren't close to the gym.

    Thoughts on Challenge Cup

Thanks, I wasn't aware of this. She hasn't competed due to injury so no scores for 2019 at all. Unfortunately there are no competitions before the closing date so it will have to be a special request. We wait to hear. I feel it is very late in the day to bring in rules like this- no time to...

    Thoughts on Challenge Cup

Gutted with new rule as my daughter has this affects my daughter. She suffered a terrible injury in the week of the English 2018 so couldn't compete at either the English or British. Due to the severe ligament damage, recovery took a long time and although she was training for 2019...

    Thoughts on Challenge Cup

Massive well done to your daughter. Its great to hear about the successes. In the latest update, the pass mark for level 1 has increased, making it harder.

    Thoughts on Challenge Cup

Text from the WTC Level 1 The National Coaches proposed removing Voluntary Level 2 and replacing it with Compulsory Level 1 so that there are less hoops (and rules) for the gymnasts to jump through and give them adequate time to be prepared for the demands of the Espoir Level. The National...

    Thoughts on Challenge Cup

Sounds great - needs to be adopted in other regions I have no experience of this but from the outside it looked fairer for those at the top end of the sport but I guess it has its own problems. I know gymnasts in the US seem do a lot more hours but I think that is happening here as well for all...

    Thoughts on Challenge Cup

I think gymnasts is really hard and although there have been changes to the system with the out of age route but it still depends on where you are based and whether it possible for parents to spend the hours to transport them to a larger club. As an outside observer, I like the US system...

    Thoughts on Challenge Cup

I agree challenge is a valid and prestigious competition in its own right. Despite using the word pass, I hate the idea it’s a pass/fail competition. Any gymnast competing at this level is amazing and should be recognized. I guess my wording stems from that fact at the clubs that I have been...
