    Parents Hardest Skill To Acquire

Clear hip to handstand- it was never consistent after 2 years. She learned a toe hand over the summer and they work much better for her.

Parents What is Your Child's Favorite Event?

Floor! She just completed level 6 and having her own routine has been incredibly fun for her- she loves to dance and perform and tumbling is her favorite.

    Parents Do you record meets?

Yep! We have lots of out of state family who love to see her compete, so I record for them- and I also love having the memories.

Parents Gymnastics Summer Camps... Which One?

This will be my gymnasts 3rd year at Flipfest and she absolutely adores it. Tons of gymnastics time, along with so many extra fun regular 'camp' stuff. Her coaches take a group every year and its the best team bonding time.

    Parents Training hours

At 6 years old my gymnast did 8 hours of practice a week.

Parents Clothing for tween gymnast body

Abercrombie Kids, Zumiez, the ‘art class’ brand at Target is less unicorns and butterflies- more grown up. My 11 yr old also likes GAP- they have a ‘teen’ line that’s nice and the smaller sizes for her ( she’s a size 8/10 usually)

    WAG Interesting meet reactions

When my gymnast was a level 3 she accidentally did a ro bhs bhs- instead of a ro bhs- lthe look of shock and ‘uh oh’ on her face when she realized what she did was hilarious.

Parents Need Advise are we wasting our time with a Gym

If she’s been at the gym for 8 years, what level did she start out at and did she repeat levels? My daughter is a first year level 6 along with about 20 other gymnasts on her team. Her gym goes from level 4-6. Some are excelling in optionals and others who did amazing in compulsory are...

WAG Question on level 6 beam requirements

Oh gosh poor kid! I’m so sorry it sounds incredibly stressful for her. I don’t know the age of your gymnast but I think this is a good example of something it would be totally okay to step in and speak to the coach about. Being dizzy before beam is really scary and it sounds like she’s almost...

WAG Question on level 6 beam requirements

If it’s causing her so much stress I can’t imagine it’s preparing her for level 7 in the way the coach is hoping- it seems more likely to become a detriment to higher if she’s unable to feel confident in the skills she is doing in competition.

WAG Question on level 6 beam requirements

My level 6 does a bhs, no back walkover series and she gets a full start value every time. She does other skills that fulfill the A requirement.

    Parents Beam dsmount

There are multiple dismounts for level 6- some of my daughters teammates do a cartwheel back tuck and some do a front tuck. I’m sure there are other possibilities beyond that.

Parents Are your kids able to compete this season?

The gym we had our in person meet with did a great job of following covid guidelines for our state, and had everything approved by the health dpt. We are in one of the states with the strictest guidelines so they had to be very careful. There were only 50 kids or so per session, you only rotated...

Parents Are your kids able to compete this season?

One virtual meet so far, and one in person. Both in state. This coming weekend was going to be their second in person meet, but the host team unfortunately lost their venue (twice) and switched to virtual. Our team decided to pull out of that meet and hold our own in house meet this weekend.

    Virtual Meets?

Our gym tested out a virtual meet platform called FlyP10 and my gymnasts ‘competed’ in the test run. Parents and coaches download an app and make an account. Once you have the account for your gymnast, you add ‘teammates’ (your gymnast’s coaches and teammates) using a special code. This keeps...

    Parents 2021 season

Our gym tested out a virtual meet platform and my gymnast was one of the guinea pigs so I got to download the app and see what it was like. Our gym ( region 5) is thinking of hosting a virtual meet...eventually.

How is it where you are?

Here is the wording for youth sports and indoor recreational activities. Elsewhere it does say ‘gyms’ can stay open at 25% capacity and that reservations are needed to work out.

How is it where you are?

Yikes! I’m so sorry you and your gymnast have to deal with this. We are also in Illinois and most gyms I know of so far are definitely not flat out ignoring the order.

Us too- youth sports were just indefinitely ‘paused’ in my state.
