How upstate are you looking? I am in the Buffalo/Niagara area and my boys are at Stumpfs. In Rochester I would highly recommend Bright Raven but there are also boys teams at RGA and Victors. World Class (Albany) and Blaze (Syracuse) have longstanding boys' teams as well. There are several...
Yay - so glad your guy made it!! The allotments were harsh and I agree on letting the seniors go. They really should. None of the JD2s from our gym made it, not even my guy who was first place for the upstate meet. But he’s 14 and has time to qualify in the future.
My level 8 had a rough meet...
I hope your gym attends - these guys work so hard, they deserve to compete!
Is that “state” meet at your gym just you guys? I still don’t really understand how it’s all working. We are doing the one in Rochester which seems to be by far the biggest of the three.
Region 7 regionals will be at Liberty Bell (formerly Montco) the second weekend of April. Qualifying will be tougher than in past years to keep the size reasonable but I haven’t heard specific details yet. Our coach just started telling the boys details today so I’m guessing more info soon.
I’m trying to focus on how much money we will save if we only compete within NY :) I do hope we are able to at least compete statewide though since as it stands right now with having to stay within your region in NY only have one other club we can compete with.
I think one of the big things will be whether or not gyms are willing to risk hosting meets, knowing they may lose a lot of money if numbers go back up and meets can't go on. Also, how early teams have to sign up will influence willingness of parents to fork over the money. I know we typically...
Our gym is planning 6/30 because that's when our area is aiming for starting Phase 4 which is when gyms can open in NY. But there's also new guidance that says gymnastics can start in regions who are phase 3 on July 6th so we will definitely be started by then. And we just got word that the NYS...
We had a big drop-off last year (from 60 to 42) but most of the ones who left, it was somewhat predictable that they weren't in it for the long haul. Even with all the craziness I don't think we are losing any this year due to those "on the fence" already leaving last year. 3 have mentioned they...
Our state director said all changes (including birthdate change that was originally going to be this year) will happen next year. Even with that I haven’t heard of moving the routines being one of the changes coming next year.
Mine are doing 2X a week zoom workouts with their coach and 1X a New York State boys gymnastics zoom workout (that one is split, one for the lower levels one for the upper). The NY one is fun because they get to see the boys they know from across the state who they would have seen at state...
We are doing Circle of Stars and Presidential Classic for travel meets. Excited to check out Circle of Stars for the first time. Presidential Classic isn't my favorite meet, but it's Florida in February so I'm not going to complain :)
Just curious, in what way are those who don't do JE penalized? I found it very interesting when we were at a college camp that the coaches also seemed to not be fans of JE but they didn't really explain why. If my son moves to L8 next year (and if the rules still have any similarity to the way...
How does your son feel about it? That would play a big role in how I would feel about it. I have one who would have no tolerance for repeating a level he had done well at, one who would blame himself no matter how much it wasn't his fault, one would wouldn't care a single bit, and one who is...
We didn't get to watch but looking forward to Day 2! My little guy is bummed Alec Yoder didn't have a better first day but we will still be cheering him on tonight.
