Hi everyone,
I'm looking for input on how other gyms do evaluation, how often, and how they communicate results with parents. Do you require conferences? Do you do skill trees through iClass? Evaluation days?
I'm leaning away from certain days of evaluation because gymnasts often change...

Parents--
I'm in need of some suggestions. I've moved from coaching tops/hopes program and levels 5-8 at a very "strict" gym. Initially I had complaints that practice was too tough and the girls were worked too hard. I've loosened up just a little and families/athletes all seem to be happy now...
Hi,
Does anyone have experience with a compulsory and optional program that generally filter right into a high school program? This is a new world for me, prior to being a competitive director for this gym, high school and JO did not ever meet ends. Prior to now, this club's program stopped at...
I'm definitely feeling this on the negative leaves...they just haven't made any attempt to communicate or keep me in the loop, which is fine, but then they expect to come back. Our board is supportive of taking kids back, but that doesn't sit with me when I am planning staffing, practice...
This is very positive, thank you. Do you feel the same if they left and then their spots have been filled with new athletes (girls who have moved to town and leveling up girls)? I'm just planning staffing for our year and find it a headache to break ratio just to take them back. I do really...
I'm bummed because these girls are sweet and have potential, but their families have not made any attempt to recognize the all of the new in the gym or recognized any team information emails. It's like they just don't care but feel entitled. Is it bad to take the kids who move, who move from...
It is about the kids. But I also have a program and business to run. I love my athletes to death and will always put them first, advocate for them, and train them with all safe measures. I am open minded about taking them back, in fact I did just take one back because her parents reached out to...
I really appreciate the out of the box thinking here. I don't think this is suitable for our program as all team athletes are required to compete unless injured or ill. I like this philosophy of our gym.
I don't want to punish the kids for their family's decision, but I can't break my coach to...
This really comes down to the philosophy of the program. I personally will not let kids be on team and not compete unless they are injured or ill. That is what advanced recreational classes and xcel is for. Team is competitive in nature. They can take away from team training because often times...
Thank you everyone for your responses. I like all of the different perspectives and this will help me make a better decision. It is solely me who decides whether kids can come back or not. I think it is smart not to let those kids come back mid season, but I will definitely open the door after...
They are on our primary board, as a secretary. We only have athlete parents, health partners, and high school team parents on our board. I wouldn't say she is prominent in the community. She won't even make eye contact with me when I say hi. I think she is embarrassed.
I get that parents would think they're doing the best thing, but they have made no effort to respond to team emails, etc. It's been a few months and we have been up and running successfully. The gymnasts are looking better than ever, though we still have some culture to build.
The attitude...
Hey,
I've recently accepted a position as a competitive teams director and optional team head coach, formerly just an optional team coach. Before I was hired, a bunch of girls left to go to another gym and were hopeful to come back when someone was hired. These girls are comoulsories and I have...
How close are you to giants? It seems silly to work around them because you won't be able to in level 9 & 10. The deductions for empty swings and not hitting handstands will really add up.
Hey,
I'm stepping into a new role as a competitive teams director, formerly was just an optional coach. This gym had a handful of girls leave for a competitor gym before I was hired. Parents said they would come back, but now they are planning on competing for this gym. A few of the parents are...
