    Adopting the new BG levels?

Yes indeed Jenny, as well as Jessica Cashman’s 16th place finish at espoir , the five girls that went on to compete at the British Senior level from the Junior and Senior levels of the Challenge cup did very well as first timers also. Indeed all the junior girls from 2021 Challenge Cup had to...

    Adopting the new BG levels?

Thanks for your reply. I understand regarding the Compulsory 2 grade pass for entry into the British but was unaware that the Voluntary 2 also played a part. What has the “pass” score been set at for Vol 2 ? In April 2021 there was a BG announcement that there was no requirement during that...

    Adopting the new BG levels?

To answer part of my own question...although of course I might be wrong , it seems there is no such thing as in age or out of age anymore and that a national gymnast can start at Compulsory 3 in order to hopefully progress to the British.

    Adopting the new BG levels?

I noticed that one or two national pathway gymnasts appear to be competing at this years British who as far has I can see have not passed either compulsory 2 in 2021 or reached the last two Challenge Cup qualifying scores in 2019 and 2021. Is there another way for gymnasts on the national...

    So what’s happening?

Wow I’m sorry respectfully also. To satisfy your curiosity I am once again concerned about BG inflexibility towards ,what by now must be considered, their” 2nd tier citizens” on what is misguidingly called the “national path” . Both parents and their children (and in the early days some...

    So what’s happening?

It’s all frustrating , such a pity BG were not able to hold back a bit before making decisions on some events that could in theory be rescheduled later in the year such as national finals etc. Nothing is certain but with the great news of an approved vaccine etc things are starting to look quite...

    So what’s happening?

Matthew Greenwood, Events Director, said: "We were very much looking forward to the British Gymnastics events programme starting again after these past twelve months without any gymnastics events, but the safety of the gymnasts has been and will continue to be the number one priority. We have...

    So what’s happening?

Much appreciated Jenny, very helpful. I wonder if the girls will be allowed to compete behind closed doors as with other sports if the covid19 situation dictates. It’s also difficult to know where the girls are going to get their qualifying scores for the Challenge or next years English when the...

    So what’s happening?

So the majority of Gyms are back in business which is obviously ,for now at least, the good news. However we parents have yet to receive any indication of schedule’s going forward. I have seen various talented girls drop out of gymnastics over the last 5 months or so. I guess some have had the...

Some clarification on English Champs qualification scores

Maybe it is a “mute point” now but that does not excuse the incompetency that BG has shown in regards to the timing of its 11th hour announcements. Let’s all be honest about this.

Some clarification on English Champs qualification scores

For those interested in the stats , there were 9 girls out of 97 who competed on all 4 apps that failed to reach 38 at last years English espoir , at junior the figure was 6 out of 90. Unless they raise the qualifying score significantly upwards in future years we are unlikely to see a great...

Some clarification on English Champs qualification scores

My daughter is very capable of performing all of the skills you have mentioned and I do understand why they would want to set a “minimum skill” criteria . However all the best intentions in the world cannot camouflage the fact that their timing has been abysmal and any changes to the rules...

Some clarification on English Champs qualification scores

So it looks as though they will be accepting the compulsory level 1 grade pass mark. I wonder if they will be accepting the National level 2 grade pass plus position attained in the national final. Of course no such thing as an “in age” national grade here , but irrelevant at espoir level since...

    Thoughts on Challenge Cup

Thank you Jenny. I had been thinking along those lines as well due to the added R&C in the grades. The lack of transparency from BG is so frustrating particularly when you consider this change to the rules has been introduced just a few weeks before the English Championship registration starts...

    Thoughts on Challenge Cup

I’m confused regarding the new English Championship 38 qualifying score. My daughter qualified for her region at national grade 2 this year for the final at Fenton Manor but the only open competition she has competed in was for her county title where she scored around 46. I stress this was not a...

    Thoughts on Challenge Cup

Well I have to totally concur. There really is nothing that you have posted that I disagree with , particularly concerning refresher courses for coaches who may have fallen back on old or bad habits as British Gymnastics continues to evolve. From reading various threads it is clear that some...

    An unfair challenge?

Hi Annikins, Many thanks. With regard to my question , it was not so much the minimum age I was referring to, indeed this is certainly very sensible depending on risk factors at the various sports. It was more directed at any other sport that given this sensible age start point is then open to...

    An unfair challenge?

The national grades age thing is a difficult one. In essence I think you are both right. On the one hand as Learning Parent has said it gives the late starters or slower developers a chance to compete doing exactly the same skills as everybody else irrespective of age but on the other hand I...
