2010-2011 meeting at the meet thread

I was a coach in Arkansas for several yrs before a knee injury forced me to quit. I can tell you most of these are the "big" meets in Arkansas. Yankee Doodle is always hugh and will take all 3 days. Emerald classic is also the last meet before state and will be large for that reason. Mega...

    Gymnastics

Level 9's can sometimes go to smaller schools. Schools like SEC and Big 10 you need to be an L 10 for 2 yrs or more or an elite to get a scholly. I would say it depends on what level you are as a freshmen. If you are not already and 8 or 9 it would be hard.

    dealing with pain

As a former gymnasts: If i said it hurt my coach shut me down. No more workout- I never admitted to pain/injury until it was so bad I couldn't keep going. Ankles and wrist were taped everyday due to weakness but I always kept going. So by the time I complained he knew it was serious. As a...

    why?

How far from the beam is your foot? I may just be that you are not squaring your hips to the beam at the end of the move. This would be a possible cause if you are just missing the beam. If it is way off to the side I agree you are most likely fanning.

    Gym problems - Suggestions please

A few years ago we had a group of parents in who got a loan and a building and set up their own gym. These were level 7-9 gymnasts whose coach had died and could not find a good gym. They found a coach through an ad on usa-gymnastics.org and hired a local coach they liked away from another...

Tiger paws vs Golden Hands wrist supports?

We always had them just pull their valco tighter.

    Boy, was I ever wrong!!!

Something that no one has mentioned. Different brands of grips fit differently and feel differently on the bar. I prefered a narrower grip that had buckles instead of valco. I encourged my gymnast to buy their own so they had what they wanted. (We have several types in the gym that were...

Tiger paws vs Golden Hands wrist supports?

I used TPs They are the one based on weight. I would size up on them when ordering for gymnast who was between sizes. They will gain weight into them. Dont really care to see most gymnast drop weight.

Hi all. I was invovled in gymnastics for 19 years before 8 knee surgeries. I still do so clients and have thought of coaching again. (my orthopedic says part time.) I competed Level 6 due to a really bad break in my arm that ended bar work. I had level 9 skills on other events. I hope...
