    Parents Switching gyms question

It sounds like situations where people leave because their gym is not equipped for higher level optionals tend to be more supportive. But otherwise so sad that this is not the normal situation. At our gym, a younger JO gymnast was going to switch to a gym that she and her family thought would...

Parents 5 Sports To Try After Gymnastics!

I really wanted my daughter to try diving and/or pole vaulting after transitioning from JO to Xcel. But she chose field hockey, basketball and now lacrosse. So fun seeing her try completely different things! (And I'll never forget her comment after her first game - "I was nervous to get the...

    Parents Most Common Gymnastics Injuries

My daughter was incredibly fortunate in her 7.5 year (L2-9) gymnastic career. She was never out for a full month. The only issues she ever had were: - hit her toe on a cable or something and it completely took all the skin around her big toe off. A LOT of blood, but healed the next week on...

Parents Will an Adult be With My Child at All Times?

Assuming its the same set up as when we did Gasparilla, both competition floors and the awards are all on the baseball field. So she won't be going to a separate room. And, as previous poster mentioned, the girls were sitting on the floor (in between the podium and the chairs set up for...

NCAA Perfect 10 Thread & College Gymnastics Scoring Discussion

I guess my issue is not so much with all of the 10's, but more about the fact that there is SO little spread. There is very little differentiation between routines that appear to have more variation in potential deductions.

    Parents First meet this season!

Had her first meet as an XD in December. Wasn't sure what to expect as she was moving from L9 to Xcel. She told me ahead of time that "I won't be impressed" as her routines were more similar to her first year L8. I hated hearing her say that and had to convince her that I just enjoy watching...

    WAG Gymnastics Talk

I loved competing vault. I love watching my daughter on vault (her best event). For college and elite I love watching floor and bars.

Parents First level 9 meet concerns

Clean lines and details will ALWAYS help her score more than if she was getting deductions for being sloppy. But, our experience was that first year level 9 was eye opening with some lower scores than she had ever seen. The flip side of that was that it was really fun to watch the progress...

Parents This may be the end

Will be thinking of you guys. I know how hard this must be for her, and for you to watch her. Wishing her good strong healing . . . and then happiness in whatever comes next. You have a strong girls with grit. I suspect there are great things on the other side of this!

    Parents Northern Virginia (Middleburg area)

I'm in the Northern VA area. Capital has a very strong program and is always one of the top teams in our local meets. As you've mentioned, they have a program for home schoolers. We have a couple of friends that have gone there - some who have loved it and thrived; others that have struggled...

    Parents Puma Jr retires…

Agree with you that 14 - and starting HS - and transitioning from gym is hard! I'm sorry she had such a string of serious injuries, but so glad that she seems to have really enjoyed diving and had such success there.

Parents Can your kid just come to your car after practice?

Pre-COVID I used to go into the lobby and wait for my daughter to come out. There were also several parents that would just drive by the front. The girls could sit in the lobby and watch for cars out front - then go out when they see their parents. Ever since COVID, there is a carpool line...

    Parents normal conditioning for preteam?

Our gym has been very conservative with COVID. We still are dropping off by car with the lobby/viewing area closed. Rationale has been that so many of the gymnasts are NOT vaccinated (too young). Interesting if this will change now that they are starting to get vaccinated. That being said...

Level 7. First year of optionals for her and it was fun to watch unique routines/floor music, etc. Also was a strong year for my daughter.

    Parents Gym change stats

It's nice hearing about some of these positive experiences people have had switching gyms. That unfortunately does not seem to be the norm. I recently learned of a situation where a family had two gymnasts (a young L6 and an older Xcel Platinum). Their family decided that it was in the best...

    Parents Gym change stats

My daughter started at our gym as a 5 year old in rec classes. She is now 14. She competed L9 last year and will be Xcel Diamond this year. We are at the same gym. I offered switching gyms many times as she really struggled under the head L8/9/10 coach. She refused to leave because she...
