I don't look at D1 college as a reason to stay or go from DP. You should really look more at what makes your daughter happy, is the coaching good, is the environment helping her grow as a gymnast and as a woman.
If it were my daughter and she was on the fence, I would say 'stay' for Level 6...
The reasons to repeat again don't sound great. "not to rush bars" sounds like they didn't uptrain enough during the year. 'May not have enough L5 girls or a L6 team' - not the gymnasts issue and is the gym saying 'we don't want to deal with a small or 1 person level this year'. Did they...
It is by the code of points. A back layout is a A and has a different code than a back full which is a B skill. The coaches have the code of points and can tell you what saltos are needed.
You could do a back tuck, back pike and back layout and meet the 3 different saltos. However those...
It sounds like a mental block/fear. She should really go back to some progression skills that feel safe for her. Maybe it's extra mats. lower beam. mats on the sides of the beam etc. She needs to regain trust in her brain that she will connect the skill and land it.
My daughter is...
Form for each skill takes time to learn. In USAG DP they start learning it in pre-team and continue to build on those early skills every year. Some girls get it quickly. Others take a lot of time to pick up the nuances.
Best thing that can work is having her do her dance moves and prep...
There is an Atlantic City Airport with Spirit and American Airlines. maybe 100-200 flights a day. Not ideal for direct flights but a decent option.
Our gym goes every year but we are somewhat local.... going to be much larger this year - 4200 gymnasts competing between DP/XCEL/JOGA
She is 9. regardless of potential, a 9 yr old should be having fun.
One of the hard things about gymnastics/and similar sports as a parent is knowing the hours and money that goes into the sport and if you see your child carrying on and taking a meet light-heartedly, it is hard to let that...
I'll commiserate.... my daughter (L6) seems to always be short on her leaps and jumps. Coaches think its her mindset not her abilities... a good switch leap on floor looks wobbly on beam right now. Her split jump on floor looks solid but shaky with a bent knee on beam.
It does all work...
Our state just switched to earlier state meets for compulsories. Used to be mid-spring but now are in February giving girls a chance to level up for the spring if coaches want.
L2-5 season starts in late October and States are in February. They will do 4-5 meets plus States. They are staying...
We (parents) are happiest when:
- meet runs on time
- clean well stocked restrooms
- plenty of seating
- events are easy to see (best meet had a standing area near the beam b/c of where they were located and plenty of seats in the other area where you could see vault/floor/bars)
- refreshments...
They only mentioned it in an email a couple of weeks ago??? eeek that's not great but still within the options of the gym to make their own more stringent criteria.
It is a life lesson - not everyone gets a medal. Not everyone gets picked for States etc.
I would have a conversation...
Ok there are 2 options here:
Option 1 - NO CONTRACT
1) send a letter stating there is no contractual relationship requiring 30 day notice and note that funds for a future month's service is hence not required.
2) send that letter via email and by return receipt requested and keep for your...
this!
we are very careful with our daughter and her teammates to celebrate the progressions over a season, meeting little goals etc. getting wrapped up in scores and medals is a recipe for issues later on. We emphasize to do your best, enjoy yourself and have fun. My daughter has seen...
Part of the sport is having a good environment with coaches and friends. I would stay and find out the team in late September.... You have a girl that likes the gymnasts and the coaches which is a huge advantage to being happy in this sport.
I would keep the other gym in mind for a couple...
What does SHE want to do? In the end anything in gymnastics should be done for fun.
In my opinion, I would let her do 1 class at that gym to understand what a practice is like. Then ask a lot of questions. Time, cost, meets, etc. Find out what your daughter really wants - there maybe an...
Wow. It sounds like their pre-team is missing the mark on preparing the girls which unfortunately translates to privates (aka more cost for the parents).
With no other gyms near by you do play the game best that you can afford. It sucks but it is what it is.
Sending some happy beam vibes...
We have had practice at 5 or 530 - 9 for a couple years now. We feed our daughter a decent dinner before practice. Today she had green beans, pork chops, and bread. She eats around 4pm for a 5pm practice.
we found dinner afterwards is too late for her. She's 11 and going into 6th grade...
