WAG Am I missing a skill?

You need a cast or your clear hip to finish at horizontal for one of your start requirements. Is your clear hip finishing high enough? If not, that's -0.5 off your start value. The clear hip also needs to finish at 45 degrees from handstand to not get an amplitude deduction, so if your clear hip...

Parents Training hours for a 7-8 year old

We only do 9 hours a week max for Xcel at my gym. G/P/D are all 3x3. Some of our home grown Xcel gymnasts (never JO) are top 100 scorers.

    WAG State meet question

What's going on with the trolls this week??? I replied to her other thread about grips before realizing she was banned and then felt like a fool LOL

    WAG Grips

I've been wearing Velcro grips forever and just bought a pair of Bailie grips with the buckles to try out because Velcro grips require a LOT of adjusting throughout a practice session. I have to adjust them after literally every turn and it just gets annoying after a while. Some people prefer...

Parents Are JOs really done with gymnastics after senior year of high school

I'm 31 and competing in Xcel Diamond right now but my end goal is to go back to JO Level 9 and hopefully L10. I had a similar situation of getting stuck at L9 all through high school and not quite making it where I wanted to so I'm finally back to try again. No reason reason why she needs to...

    WAG The Wrist Shift-HELP!

I'm also an adult competing in Xcel and a former L9 and have always struggled with clear hips. Love the video you posted @gymisforeveryone I haven't seen that kind of drill before and I think it will be very helpful! Can't wait to try it. Sorry I don't have any useful advice besides some moral...

Parents Bruises on thumbs from grips

How far up on her wrists are her grips sitting? My grips sit further up my arm and don't rub on my thumbs at all, so it seems weird to me that she would have bruises there. A couple possibilities here but she may either need the grips to be tightened more so they don't slide down the wrist so...

    WAG Shorts During Competition

I agree with this 100%. I rarely see girls in the gym wearing loose shorts these days anyways (rip Soffe shorts) so I think most girls would opt for the tight shorts over loose ones anyways and I think that's a perfectly reasonable thing to allow. I'm still confused why anyone would be against...

    WAG Shorts During Competition

For the record dancers do wear shorts, maybe not so much in ballet but in many other styles/disciplines its incredibly common. I think if tight shorts are so distracting that you can't judge a split line then you probably need more practice as a judge. Personally I feel like it's actually...

    WAG Shorts During Competition

I don’t want to go all out and say men shouldn’t have any say in this conversation, but I do find it incredibly frustrating as a person who did gymnastics while going through puberty, that “older” men (older from the gymnast’s point of view) are getting a say in how much modesty young girls are...

    Parents Sever’s Stories

I hope it's okay if I post here as I'm not a parent but this is my personal experience. I developed Sever's when I was 12 before my level 8 season, I actually remember the exact thing I was doing when I first felt the pain (BHS in a row on the floor for conditioning). I bought heel cups that I...

    WAG Inconsistent judging scores

Honestly, until/unless they allow judges to look at and re-watch a video recording of the routine, the inconsistencies will continue. Some things to consider: -Judging takes a lot of practice, can be expensive to get into, and doesn't pay well. -As mentioned above, the "up to" deductions can...

WAG USAG Xcel leaps vs. jumps

And in case anyone else doing adult gymnastics happens upon this thread now or in the future, the Facebook group is called "Just Like Fine Wine... Adult Gymnastics Group" and there are thousands of members from all over the world. Highly recommend joining to anyone who is involved in adult...

WAG USAG Xcel leaps vs. jumps

I only ask because I refer pretty much every adult gymnast I run into anywhere online or in person to it LOL. When I first joined it was only ~500 I think that was quite a while ago. I just think it's a great additional resource for anyone doing adult gymnastics especially since we didn't have...

WAG USAG Xcel leaps vs. jumps

Also typically a jump begins on 2 feet and a leap begins on 1. There's also hops which can begin on 1 foot (for example a wolf hop which starts on 1 foot vs a wolf jump which starts on 2). Are you in the Adult gymnastics group on Facebook?

    WAG Xcel Platinum Beam Series

I'm on books version of the COP on iOS. Here's the page I'm referring to, you can see it listed in the examples for SR #3 What about doing a back walkover, swing through and kick up to handstand from your bad leg?

Sorry... I just broke the site

I guess we can forgive you, just this once. We are going to have to deduct a full point from your final score, though

    WAG Xcel Platinum Beam Series

By the way, I’m also an adult doing Xcel and I’m using handstand step out to non-dominant leg, swing through to cartwheel as my alternate series for when my back is not feeling it for the BWO series.

    WAG Xcel Platinum Beam Series

In the Xcel COP they list 2x forward roll as an example for the beam series in platinum so I think it would almost certainly count as long as you move quickly into the back roll.

    2021 Goals

I'd like to get judging certified here in the USA. I did some compulsory judging in Australia when I lived there but haven't done any of the testing here yet. I'm also training with an Xcel group right now (31 years old, just started training again in 2019) and am hoping to start getting some...
