Looking for experienced, or willing to learn, coaches for recreational gymnasts in a brand new facility in Chicago.
Age groups range from 1.5yr to adult! (you can pick what age group you prefer to work with)...
So... my head coach has decided that our front giants need to be the "whip" method (for girls), something that I need to work on a bit.
I can teach front giants for girls, and I have done so successfully using a hollow rise method. I feel comfortable spotting this (shoulder in front, wrist/hip...
So.. I've been pondering lately the mechanical differences between these skills, and Im still a little stuck on why we don't teach the hindorff like we do a tk. Why don't we teach the bridge shape from the free hip?
As a little background, I recently took the plunge and coughed up for the J...
So.. I guess this is more of a vent than anything... but if any suggestions arise, I would love to hear them.
I know I can teach a straddle back. I know I can spot them.
However, I have a string of girls who are having a heck of a time doing them to handstand...
I got one who is doing them...
So...
Got a new one on me today.. I was asked to teach an "in turn" to which I said "a what?" After explanation, I said "Oh! A Blind Change!" to which I was told "no..."
So.. is there really a difference between the two? Valuation difference? Other than the technical, which seems to be the...
Just wanted a quick check -
When you teach releases.. do you focus on one or two particular releases for gymnasts, or do you prefer to teach as many as you can over a long period of time? Do you expect that your gymnasts have a bag of tricks, so to say, or do one to three extremely well?
No...
So, Ive been coaching a lot of rec groups lately, and one skill that I never really emphasized (because the kids I used to work with usually just... had them) was front walk overs, or, more basic, front limbers.
I use a shoulder spot for back limbers (back bends) to help gymnasts feel how to...
I did, so I asked. And, I even got to take pictures.
Some of them are pretty neat.
Feel free to look, and comment on gymnastike.

The women at UIC are some hard working gymnasts... hopefully, like me, you guys can show some...
So Ill admit I didn't read the code cover to cover.. but I did do my best to understand bonus/connection.
Im a little confused.. there is little incentive to attempt F or G level skills... so... why value them as such? Or am I missing an obvious no brainer here?
I know in highschool...
While I probably should have posted this in the coaches forum, I want to leave it open to everyone.
While I understand that limiting yourself by taking away certain skills is an exercise in futility, I wanted some opinions on this.
Are yurchenko vaults necessary to teach?
As I understsand...
Particularly other coaches or parents who are familliar with me. If you do, please send me a private message. I have a favor to ask.
I really appreciate it!

Hey, Im just looking for ideas..
Right now, Im thinking inlocate + kip, but the break down of body motion seems too broken...
Any suggestions would be very welcome.
Thanks!

So.. I finally got around to watching my recording of the Big 10 conference champs, and over all it was good stuff all around.
If anyone wants highlights Ill be happy to share...
However, one thing stuck out to me - Penn State's girls looked amazing! Physically they all had really nice...
Since we did a front-handspring development, I was hoping we could talk a little about another skills (or group of skills)..
Front and back walk overs.
I can get front and back limbers easy. The pretty extended body, leg up front walk over and back walk over are not so easy for me.. Unless...
Warning: Question not for the feint of heart.
That said... I have a connundrum... At our state meet, my best bar girl pulled in on her double. You can all fill in the blank from there.
I reviewed the video over and over... and the best I could do is exactly what I did - I kept...
Well.. it was started, so Ill take the time to begin.
As a highschool coach, I have limited time with my athletes to perfect skills, so I work on making circuits that re-enforce body motion, awareness, and flexibility.
To begin my progression, I start by teaching a handstand. While this...
So.. Ive had my method for teaching these for a while.. and had success with it... but another coach saw how I was teaching and offered his advice which, I thought, was mind bogglingly revolutionary at the time (just a different way of teaching what was most likely going on already).. and when I...
So.. Ive taught both before... but Im drawing a blank on some peices and I need some help.
One, the easier of the two - other than pulling the bar and pushing the feet into the bar, what helps speed up a sole circle so it can end in a stand? I cant recall if the shoulders actuate anything...
