WAG NSW - National and State Stream

Ours were a combination of bands and places for regional comps and just places for the invitational comps. Sorry I get confused with the terminology. So prior to this change, did the 'State' gymnasts attend the invitational competitions alongside the ALP/NLP gymnasts? Just not the State and...

WAG NSW - National and State Stream

Hi Jess! Thank you so much for your incredibly detailed reply. That’s explained a lot! My daughter was level 4 this year and will be in 5 next. We are at a small relatively low hours gym (it seems) but don’t have the state stream. So I assume we won’t enter state as the hours perhaps aren’t low...

WAG NSW - National and State Stream

Hi all! Apologies as I know this is unlikely to get much traction here but I can no longer find the Australia forum. It seems that GymNSW has added a National and State stream option. Just curious if anyone knows much about it? Is it a formal thing where you have to be registered as a State or...

Parents No score out for level 5?

One comp that my daughters' club attends does a strength/flexibility component and I think it's wonderful. It's an area my level 4 girl excels in so she ends up with medals (it's a banding system rather than places with ribbons and medals rather to represent their score) and it is the best boost...

    Parents Gym & Video Question

Totally understand. Can you try send an email? Explain how she’s loving it and wants to do stuff at home and you would love to hear how she’s coping. They may be more receptive. (Or maybe you’ve done this but I missed it)

Sorry! Just realised this was an old thread.

    Parents Gym & Video Question

We don't get feedback either. I speak to my daughters' coaches for logistics reasons, medical reasons and general chit-chat at pick-up and drop-off because we are a small gym and they are friendly. Sometimes when she learns a cool new skill they will show me the video but 'feedback' is...

Parents How much is your comp leo?

This is the problem, when talking about kids under the teen years there is no doubt they’ll grow. I thought ours were expensive but reading this thread I guess I should be relieved as i’d be pissed to pay these prices when it is possibly to get cheaper as I have no doubt mine will need a new one...

Parents How much is your comp leo?

In Sydney - $100 (tank leo) but the level 5+ I think are $150

    Anon Practicing Kip at home

So an update (in case anyone ever searches kip like I did).. she has it! It just suddenly came. Interestingly so can do it at gym but not at home on our bar so there's that. I guess because it's not 'bouncy' like a normal bar/maybe chalk etc. Now she doesn't even try at home as she says it feels...

WAG Do you actually need a back walkover to learn a bhs?

That would be great if you could. Thank you!. My daughter isn’t good at communication so a lot can be lost in transit.

WAG Do you actually need a back walkover to learn a bhs?

Ahh ok! Thanks for clarifying. My daughter just said they have a BWO in their routine and didn’t mention tic toc so I wrongly assumed it meant it was compulsory. Didn’t realise there was an option in level 4. Good to know :)

WAG Do you actually need a back walkover to learn a bhs?

In Australia a BWO is required in level 4 routine and back handspring not until level 5 so I imagine because of that it's unlikely to teach handspring without one?

    Parents Hardest Skill To Acquire

So far kip. Still doesn't have it (doesn't need it yet but they are working them) but can do a cast to handstand which I think is a couple of levels away. On floor she doesn't seem to have a front walkover but can do a front and back handspring. Skills are funny things.

    Anon Practicing Kip at home

That makes a lot of sense. Perhaps her timing is off so her strenth isn't the factor here.

    Anon Practicing Kip at home

Thanks for sharing. That's good to know as better she takes longer to get it and gets it properly.

    Anon Practicing Kip at home

Hi all! My daughter is an (AU) level 4 and is learning her Kip. She is super strong, one of the strongest in the levels program at her gym (and I do not say this as a bias parent but rather been told/seen for myself). She is struggling to get her Kip and has started to practice at home on our...

Parents Is two hours to much for a four year old

My daughter started in development at 4 turning 5. It was only 1 1/2 hours and that was perfect for her. If she’s also doing a Rec class that’s 3 hours a week which is a lot and perhaps for her the comparison between the fun Rec environment to the squad is putting her off as I imagine the focus...

    WAG Competing at lower levels

This makes a lot of sense, thanks, particularly with so much emphasis on dance components at lower levels. My daughter is 7 and struggles a lot more with those parts on the beam and floor than the more physical skills.

    WAG Competing at lower levels

Sorry Australia. I should have specified. But yes agree they would def be bored hence why I understand the upskilling but at the same time I think if my daughter was confident in skills a couple of levels above she’d be bored of competing down. Guess it’s a fine line for the coaches to balance...
