Parents A Parents guide to understanding Gymnastics Judging.

Not sure if I'm an oddity, but I rarely pay much attention to her scores - it's her placing that is important to me: did she improve her position compared to the other girls? Not "did she do better than so and so", but if she moved from say 10th place to 7th, then that's an improvement! And...

    Limbers OK?

We won't find out until the end of the year

    Limbers OK?

Yes she is ... do you mean 2009 has a bridge kickover or 2010? Because she's been in level 2 this year and they have been doing a limber (as have the other level 2s in our region). And I have no issues with the bridge position at her age, it's just the standing up without moving her feet that...

    Limbers OK?

I was actually wondering about limbers not bridges. And since starting this thread, I've seen a couple of youtube videos that are calling different things limbers. What I'm talking about is standing, then bending backwards into a bridge, then standing back up again (not kicking over) - so...

    leotard life

I have been tumble drying DD's leos for the past 2 years with no issues (the GK labels say you must tumble dry not hang - and I'm too scared to do otherwise!!). I just tumble dry with no heat at all (on the "air" setting on my dryer). No shrinking or anything bad has happened. I couldn't...

Parents Emily's 1st level 6 meet results:) I think she did great for the first meet

She sure did do great! Very nice!! I think her vault is lovely :) Pity about beam, but as you said, there's still next week. I'm sure everyone's still sending BWO fairies your way. Good luck next week - and I hope her back is OK after the 110 BWOs!!

    Floor and vault competitions?

Floor + beam + vault + bars + ...? what's the 5th apparatus? And I have only heard of floor + vault from a friend in England.

    Limbers OK?

I've been reading some threads about bridges and how they're not recommended for preschoolers ... I don't want to get into that discussion here, but it got me thinking about limbers. In Australia, the level 2s have to do a limber in their floor routine, and it's pretty much the hardest part...

Parents Have to share some exciting news

Way to go!! Sounds like fun - it's always good to see 'how it's done' in other places. I wish we could go to more!

    Setting Goals?

DD has a list on her bedroom wall with what she wants to achieve, and then writes the date next to each one when she gets it. It's divided up into 5 groups (one for each apparatus, then one for competitions), and she has 3-4 goals under each one, with space for more when she's achieved some of...

    Handstand help

So when you're in a handstand, you should be looking at the floor/your hands? Not at the wall?

    Parents getting stones off leo

DD has a leo that 2 stones have fallen off - but she found them and brought them home for me to re-attach. Does anyone know what sort of glue I'm supposed to use?

    Parents Information for gym newbies!

There are a lot of hours involved compared to other sports. This is something you need to get used to - and when you are, then you have to put up with non-gym parents judging you for putting your child into something that takes up so much time. You can't compare your child's ability and...

    Personal ??? Girls....

What about shorts? They should probably help out with that. If there's not too much hair, try plucking - it does hurt a bit, but the hairs grow back much slower. (shaving doesn't hurt at all but hair grows back quickly).

    Parents Cartwheel on beam!

Ooh, I hope so, that would be great for her! Her confidence is improving, but she still gets intimidated by some of the other girls in her group, so I think a few more tricks would work wonders! :veryhappy:

    Parents Cartwheel on beam!

She doesn't have the BWO on beam yet - and is aiming for a round off first. No ice-cream, but a new leo! :)
