I am so sorry for her. We struggle with the same..I think we all do. Gymnastics is just so hard on the body and requires a ton of commitment for the JO route. Platinum/Diamond in Xcel might be a good option. My DD did HS diving while doing a gymnastics. I don't suggest doing 2 sports at...
Love of the sport is really the main factor. Even with injuries, struggles with skills, bad or ineffective coaching, or personality differences with team mates, it is love of the sport that keeps them there. Period.
Now, we need to define "love of the sport." That might different for...
My observation is that there are far more scores below 36 in levels 8, 9, and 10 than the levels below that. Lots of 33s-35s. I believe this is simply because there are so many really difficult skills, it is pretty hard to hit every routine with no mistakes. Plenty of 34s and 35s win AA in...
Have you considered a series with a forward skill? Mine does a FHS series because the only BHS series she could do was HS-BHS...fine for level 7 but not for level 8.
Nothing specific to gymnastics. We equipment so the parents can try to stay in shape and battle old age. She has used that stuff a few times when the gym was closed because of snow storm. No trampoline either.
She literally made up the choreography to her current level 8 floor and beam...
Ours is a Board Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician. We like a combo of soft tissue therapy, adjustment, and use of technology as needed. DD should probably go more often as preventative care, but she goes whenever something bothers her. He always gets her back on track!
She should work drills for CHS on bars. There is a something about being able to get your shoulders over the bars that can be challenging...even for a kid that can do a press HS.
I think she is a good gymnast and seems like a nice young lady, but that wolf turn was a mess and even in her subsequent turns she put her foot down early on. I think they should have deducted much more than they did (says the mom who knows nothing about scoring and deductions :-)).
Mine dives for HS too, but still does gymnastics as well. It makes for a crazy fall and I actually don't recommend it. But gymnasts make great divers!!
If she isn't ready to hang up her grips, maybe she would consider club gymnastics at college. There are actually quite a few schools that have a club team. If that would interest her then maybe it does make sense for her train until she goes away for the semester. I agree that just stopping...
Mine is 5'6" and pikes down as well. She also flexes her feet some (which her coach tells her is probably causing a deduction. DD says she will take the deduction to avoid breaking her toes when they hit the low bar. Whatever works to avoid injury.
What has made me the most sad are the ones that had to stop due to injuries, ongoing pains, etc. They love the sport, their heart is in it, but their bodies told them it was time to quit. So UNFAIR!
