My son was awarded three 10's in level 4 (rings, pommell and floor) it was at an interstate meet and he was so proud. Interestingly when we watched the video afterwards, he pointed out 1 or 2 things in each routine that he feels should have lost him points.
DD was one of a group of 9 girls selected for fast track when they were in old level 1/2 ( In Australia at the time competition started at level 1) - Six years later there are four remaining all first or second year level 7's this season, the other five have moved onto to other sports.
Ausi_poppet if they end up with long sleeves make sure that they actually measure the girls arms . Sylvia P sizing has really really long arms. All our girls that have brought from the in stock range find the arms to be around 5cm too long. Our club order this year we had to specifiy arm length...
My girls don't like the fit of Chalk leotards and say they are uncomfortable, I tend to agree that they don't appear to fit well. Our boys team has leos from Chalk and most of them hate them.
Ours girls switched from gk to sylvia p last year, primarily based on price ( damm that Aussie dollar)...
Use a brush to start, then the finest comb you can find - for practice I wouldn't worry to much, stick some snap type clips on any wayward pieces.
For competition - start with damp hair, brush, then a comb, spray some gel on and comb again. A tip I got from you tube is to use a clean toothbrush...
Can you talk to the coach regarding the end of year display? Is it compulsory - or can you just be unavailable on that day ;)
I totally understand what you are saying here, I don't think any of us want to be "that" parent :) I would wait, if after several weeks or a month or so your daughter...
How old is your dd? ( sorry I can't remember) Level 6 is a hard level, especially bars, and for talented young girls it can be really confronting when they hit a level where things don't come quickly and easily.
My level 7 gymnast has been constantly saying "it is too hard", I pointed out to...
The measurement is from the tip of the middle finger to the bottom of the palm. Measure both hands, because I have found that they are not always the same size. If you check out the gk website they have an illustration of how to measure.
Dd prefers GK grips, she would rather velcro than...
Early morning meets my dd has a small breakfast - porridge (if it is super early I pop it in a small thermos, some honey on top, small bottle of milk and she eats in the car) or toast and vegemite, sometimes a smoothie.
I pack clean, non messy snacks in her comp back - sultana's, cheese and...
It really depends on how many hours she is training as to how quickly they wear out. We tend to buy new ones whenever the coach tells us they are needed - probably every 12-18 mths. DD finds that the Bailey brand tends to wear out faster than some others.
I have just learnt to be vague - something along the lines of "oh she is there 4-5 days a week, she loves it". I have accepted that to non gymnastics parents our family life appears slightly crazy lol
Well I never use soap or washing powder as it takes the shine off mystique leos. I simply swish in a basin of cold water with a handful of salt added, rinse, spin and air dry. If no washing machine, roll in a towel to remove as much water as possible.
Yes been there, done that. My gymnast was 12 yrs old, had been doing gymnastics from 7 yrs old and was just done with it. We were having conversations about not wanting to go to training - " it wasn't fun anymore, it feels like a chore" along with tears on the way to gym. It took me a while to...
^^^^^^^ Totally agree with Bog, run very fast away from that gym. I know you said previously that your daughter didn't want to leave, and I understand that, but sometimes as parents we have to make tough decisions for our kids for their long term benefit. Your dd will miss her old gym buddies...
Yes ! DD first competed FHS as an 8 yr old -and it was 50:50 each time as to whether she would go over the darn vault. It took me three years to stop crossing my fingers and hoping for the best every time she lined up for vault. She is 13 now - and has gone from being one of the weakest...
Aussie_coach you posted this on another thread... I was under the impression headstands were banned, yet there is a headstand in the compulsory Level 6 floor routine?
