When my son was a L7/8/9 - every summer he couldn't do twisting on floor (after competing fulls/double fulls all season) - and he couldn't do layouts without wanting to twist - I think it was 3 or 4 years in a row. I did nothing - except remind him to chill and it would come back. His coaches...
My son had ankle surgery aa a 14 yo level 9. He was non weight bearing and out of the gym for a 8 weeks. He came back slowly over the summer - got all his skills back and more....
The first time (at 9/10) when he was tiny & isn’t have to worry about hitting his feet- I’d say about a year of drills and then a few months of actually doing then to be confident. The second time- after growing lots- about 4 months of refiguring everything out.

Did you see this? We did the state meet at our gym for fun last year.(Our girls were doing NGA and our boys competed state/nationals if they wanted. Scores seemed much higher than JO.
This is fun - like old times!!
DS (L10)has had two meets -both significantly higher AA than last year - both good AA placements. He's 12/12 - which never happens at L10 mens - but he's also all set for college next year and not competing anything crazy where he could get hurt. Best part -...
#1 - Watching my non gymnast son leave for school, find new friends & activities, and coming home in uniform looking so much older !!
#2 - J receiving an appointment to West Point and the fact that he will be part of a college team !!
I ask - "how was practice?" He says - "OK" and then does whatever it is kids do on their phones - mostly reply to emails & hatch dragons I think. Once in a while - I get gossip on his teammates social lives and I did get to overhear a phone call from his friends who were at an AP study session...
Congratulations - I've heard rumors of rough regional cuts in our region too! I don't think any of our JD are scoring near that high - I do agree with your opinion on the seniors & even L10's mostly getting to go - if they are doing hard Level 10 routines -there are going to be some falls (ok...
I'm teaching remotely & start hybrid (HS) next week - we are split into 2 cohorts (they are not exactly equal size - but no classes larger than 16 for me) and they attend in person (T/W or Th/F) - Monday is remote still without scheduled classes but time for interventions as needed. We are...
My kids are both back in person- junior & senior - 2 different schools - masks all of the time - one way hallways - desks spaced out - lunch is only 2 kids/table - one school added outside tents for lunch & one is using the gym bleacher. So far, so good - my kids are just glad to be back.
We've been back for about two weeks - went from 2 hrs x 4 days week #1 to 2.5 hrs x 4 day week #2. Back to 3.0 hours x 4 days next week and I think that will max it out for a while. I'm not thinking we'll hit our usual summer hours this year and I'm fine with that. Slow, steady, & safe return...
