    WAG Under Armour replaces Adidias

University of Maryland Gymnastics Team has Under Armour- they got some great leos for the "pride" meet.

Parents Didn't see this coming. Might be the end of gymnastics for DD

Flipper went through months here and there of wanting to quit when she was 11, 12, and 13. I used Dunno's method and she would soon have months of loving gym and making long term plans. Finally last summer, before starting high school, she made it clear she was going to quit, or at least take a...

    Parents Who is your coach?

My dd is a long time gymnast turned cheerleader. There are big differences in the way they do skills. She had to unlearn starting positions and landing positions. I can easily tell which cheerleaders were former gymnsats when I watch a routine. Gymnasts' legs and arms are straighter, their...

WAG directors:? grouping teams in meets?

First- follow USAG rules for numbers. Second- try to make it easy on coaches/teams. Third- don't group teams with bad blood on the same squad whenever possible. Fourth- keep your sanity.

WAG Optional Level Gymnasts Beginning Freshman Year & Burnout

DD has been going through this and is probably going to drop out of gymnastics. I think JBS and Dunno are absolutely on the right track to retain gymnasts and to keep their lives in perspective. DD's coach lacked commitment, and that has definitely contributed to him not being able to keep her...

    Tendonitis experience?

Thanks. My dd has had some success with her orthotics> Mostly I'm hoping to see the range of experiences people are having. Also looking for support and commiseration. Thanks for sharing!

    Tendonitis experience?

Not asking for medical advice-DD has a doctor and sees her frequently. Just curious what other young (teen) sufferers of tendonitis have had for treatment. Physical therapy? Casts/boots/braces? RICE? Heat? Prescribed or over the counter NSAIDS? Steroids? Cortisone? Surgery? Has anything...

Disappointment and where do we go from here?

I would let the new gym place her wherever they think it is appropriate to place her. Just go in and tell them that she competed level _ this year and would like to continue competetive gymnastics. They will evaluate her and place her.

IGC - how much supervision outside the gym?

No worries. ICG very highly supervised

Level 8 bars - accidental coach touch deduction

I thought that a vault was voided if the coach touches the gymnast. Isn't that a new rule from last year? It used to be a deduction but now I think it's a 0. That is what they do here.

    Cortisone Opinions ...?

I can vouch for Dunno. I've had cortisone injections and they have not worked most of the time. I'm not a gymnast, just a victim of bursitis.

    Three back handsprings

Depends on a few things. GymPanda answered this recently- maybe you can search her posts. My dd has three but they are all different skills so she gets credit for all of them- she does two in series-step out and two foot, and BHS -BT dismount.

    Training with an injury

Whatever the doctor says. There are both schools of thought and I know my dd knows which doctor wants her to go to practice and which doctor will put a cast on it to prevent her from hurting herself more. From observation, I think the doctors that send her to some practice to keep her skills...

    Age minimums for certain skills?

I met a 10 yo level 10 @ a meet one time. Her family was doing crazy driving every day to get her to the gym with the coaches they wanted. No family life at all. And, they were also saying in the same breath, " she's a level 10 now, and we don't know what else there is for her to do for the...

    smelly competition leo-help!

I'd be very nervous about any soaking- if you have light and dark color blocks they can run. anything white or silver can end up pink or skyblue. I try to keep it "wet" as short a time as possible. Febreeze in the gym bag is good, there are some little "balls" you can buy in the sports stores...
