Off Topic All About Gymnastics Grips

Thanks for the RSVP JBS. +1 on pirouette. I do like the colored wrist bands idea. Yesterday I used some Mueller Tear-lite tape in colors on the flipping hand during the ground drills. It helped my more novice gymnasts. Good stuff. Cheers.

    WAG Geinger

Sage wisdom. I am living this currently. I have a Level 9 gymnast learning a geinger. She is nearly 5'8" tall and working the drills. Learning to fall with appropriate matting, learning the technique and working smart attempts all without "full spoting." I do "spot" or guide falls to be...

Off Topic All About Gymnastics Grips

Grips - excellent and informative post. The pic in the article shows an athlete wearing the buckle grips with the buckles to the inside when not on. I ask my gymnasts to always have the buckles to the outside (or straps to the outside). This prevents dings or cuts from the buckles. Do others...

What's your best guess at what next season will look like?

FYI for Minnesota - Region IV: We got the news from the Minnesota State Board, 5/31 update, that the L3-5 season would be moved to a Championships EOM March 2021. This is a one season decision.

COVID-19 / Coronavirus Gymnastics Club Reopening Steps / Process

Excellent point. We are all speaking to the same as respiratory drops will fall to the gym surfaces and then need to be cleaned.

COVID-19 / Coronavirus Gymnastics Club Reopening Steps / Process

They do accelerate the wear of the beam cover. The manufacterurs recommend the mild solution to wipe only if you have to. Wipe not saturate. They sell some products to use. The balance between safety and accelerating wear and tear is a tough place. The bleach will wreck landing mats and...

COVID-19 / Coronavirus Gymnastics Club Reopening Steps / Process

Addition to my post above: Some cojent facts - COVID-19 and other coronaviruses can live on surfaces for a few hours or up to several days, according to the World Health Organization, depending on the type of surface and the temperature and humidity. One recent study, which has not yet been...

COVID-19 / Coronavirus Gymnastics Club Reopening Steps / Process

We have a liquid (sold in large gallon quanities), I do not recall at the moment the manufacturer, that is misted (electric misting gun) onto everything (gym/lobby/front desk). The misting gun is very expensive and was hard to get at the beginning of March. All surfaces. We were told that it...

COVID-19 / Coronavirus Gymnastics Club Reopening Steps / Process

Plans discussed for the re-open of our gym include: (1) Gymnast assigned a balance beam. HB complex day A. LB complex day B. After rotation all surfaces wiped down. Beams wiped down. Mats wiped down. Cleaning done before next group enters gym. (2) Gymnasts assigned drills stations for...

    WAG Conditioning for young gymnasts

I suggest using the USA-G TOP's program as a starting model and the programs detailed outcome goals as a guideline. IMO, this is the starting point. TOPS Conditioning - https://usagym.org/pages/women/pages/conditioning.html TOPS Physical abilities -...

WAG Does your child's/gym's conditionning program include the use of weights?

I have incorporated free weights, treadmill, cycle machines and Cybex weight machines into our conditioning programs. Resistance training, moderation, individual and age based, is excellent for young athletes. Phsio balls, stall bars, free weights, balance boards, bands, cords are used...

Coaches Not all Chalk is created equal!

+1 to Hollowarchkick's post! Boy oh boy I am not going thru Chalk Issues again! I have "normal chalk" and enough in storage to cover the next world chalk emergency. CoachP; I do buy bulk chalk (big garbage plastic bag sized of chalk chunks and small particulate in a protective cardboard...

    WAG Judges Tables at Meet

Fruit skewers are an excellent idea. In the past we have small sugar candies, small chocolate treats, packaged nuts and beverages of their choice. Our meet staff asks them mid session if they have any need. Pre-session I have taped rotation schedule, score sheets (for required judge...

WAG Level 4 vs Level 5 vs Level 7 vault FHS

+1 to Chalkbowl's reply. Exactly identical. (For coaches p.156 in Comp. Code book). The L4 and L5 Vault explanations in the book are the identical. Specific deductions for a HS vault, (for coaches = Group 1 #1.101), in Optionals I read this evening to be the the same (Code of Points)...
