Parents Moving - how do you know which gym to choose?

I used to live in League City about 4-5 years ago. It depends on age and level in that area. My daughter went to Acrosports the entire time we were there, but their optional program has all but disappeared. We have friends at Reflex & Pearland Elite in the optional programs. If we were to...

Parents Gym dad conversation...made me giggle

As a gym dad I even get to come on Chalkbucket every once in a while and read about what's going on. I have to spend my time in the opposite direction of DD's gym and driving and being soccer dad to big sister. I know which level she competes at, know where she placed at States & Regionals...

WAG Gym Recommendations in Houston, TX

3 gyms come to mind immediately in Clear Lake. First my daughters old gym Acrosports, but they've undergone a bit of a change since leaving. I think they may still have an compulsary program. They are in Webster. The other two are in Pearland. Reflex and Pearland Elite. There is a smaller...

WAG Question re qualification to Texas North State & States

I believe that in N. Texas as well as S. Texas you have to have a qualifying score in a District Qualifying meet. Then from there you have to do well in your District Championships, then N. States, then State Championships.

WAG tougher scoring in certain states?

Hey @Quadqueen, I'm still around reading the boards regularly, I just don't post often. DD is doing well. She's grown a little since her compulsory days and I think that may have been the cause of some of her troubles. Last year was the first year with the new gym and she's made some real...

    Parents Opinions plz

Its funny that you put this and soccer together. As my little one was even younger I always figured she'd move away from this and head into soccer like her big sister. I keep waiting for this to happen but shes 11 now so I think it might be a little to late. We almost got her there, then we...

    Parents Opinions plz

Now, I'm not a coach, I'm only a dad of a daughter who's struggled with fear issues over the last couple of years. But can anybody tell me how in the world this approach can work? "You go over there and do it until you're not scared anymore?" It's not as if the coach said run a lap and she...

Parents Any tips for managing expectations in competetive dads?

Very well, thank you for asking! She scored a high 36, up around 37 and ended up winning the all-around in her age group. But more impressive to me was what she did on her floor routine. Forgive me for my terminology here, but I just don't know. I mentioned before she is having fear issues...

    Parents Mental Block!

Yeah...mental blocks....what can you do! My little one is in a constant stuggle with this. So much so, that I'm not sure she'll ever come out of it. Like your dd, mine will do the forward stuff but balks regularly at the backwards stuff. I never talk to her about it, because it's not really...

Parents Any tips for managing expectations in competetive dads?

I didn't expect to get so many likes for my post! I had to just pat myself on the back! JoyAvenueMom, I also had to chuckle when I saw this in your post. When my daughter was completely dominating I was amazed by it. People would congratulate me like I was out there doing a floor routine...

Parents Any tips for managing expectations in competetive dads?

Hi, I don't post a lot but this is an interesting post. But I'm a dad of a 10yo L8 gymnast who's had a good amount of success early on. Level 5 JrA1 TX AA state champ, Level 7 Child A WA state AA Silver Medalist and beam champ. She is currently dealing with some fear issues going backwards...

Parents Meet during the super bowl :(

As a dad of an optional gymnast (10 yo Lvl 8), and who this may be her last year of competing, and someone who LOVES football...it's an easy call for me. When we lived in TX and dd competed compulsaries I was there for every single meet. No questions asked, and luckily never had that conflict...

Parents Hopes and Dreams for 2013

My hopes for DD (10 year old level 8): Since relocating to the new gym DD has developed a fear of flipping backward. This is going on her 2nd season and she's struggling a bit. My only hope for her is to once again find they joy in her sport that she used to have and not to be so concerned...

    Parents is gymnastics that different?

As a dad of a gymnast and a competitive soccer/volleyball player and a former athlete and former coach, I tell you this as I used to tell my parents (when I was coaching, not my mom and dad!). You are not the coach, if you want to be the coach grab yourself a clip board and come out here and...

    Parents Gym

Dunno, I read your posts and like what you say. You appear to have many years in the gymnastics sport. I have ZERO experience except watching my daughter...just curious, do you still coach?

    Parents Gym

I think that one of the things that is most concerning is that you don't or can't know until something happens unless you find a board like this. When we moved from Houston last year my daughter had just finished her level 5 and a meet at level 6 and then we moved. Shortly after we left our...

    Parents Gym

I have a question for the veterans of this sport. If this type of information isn't readily available on the net, but is available on the private forums, then how is a parent like myself supposed to know? My daughter is a pretty good gymnast and I never want her to have to suffer through...
