    Mental blocks/Performance depression

This may be kind of long, so heads up. I'm 19 and male too, just FYI. So lately I've been having a lot of trouble with my tumbling. My little group of friends goes to our local gym all the time, we are on the acro team there, on which I am a base. I just tumble casually, I'm not a tumbler on the...

    WAG Mental Blocks....

How do your coaches deal with these? Almost every gymnast has them, and I happen to be suffering from some now. A few of my coaches will tell us to man up and go-but that only works on some people. Others will talk us through it, do drills, etc. I'm interested into how you or your dd overcomes...

For Parents Anxiety, blocks and fears, oh my!

Hi all - My 13yo L8 gymgirl has been experiencing various blocks since the end of L5, mostly around reverse skills (bhs, bt). She actually can do the skills very well, but gets blocked off and on. She's been able to work thru the blocks, and still do well in competition (L7 state beam champ!)...

For Parents IT Band Injury, Time Off, Blocks & Missing Meets

My daughter has had a really, really rough year or so... (last year level 9, this year back to 8 due to "blocks") -About a year ago, during a meet, she fell off beam during her back tuck and hit her foot on the way down. Had to take a few weeks off. Came back and was blocked on her bhs bhs beam...

    WAG Flyaway Mental Blocks

Hello everyone! So last year I competed the old level 6/ xcel gold and I competed a flyaway in my routine. I never had trouble with them, they were always easy. And now this season I'm gonna compete the new level 6/7 but I need a flyaway.... More accurately a cast flyaway. Here's my problem now...

    Mental blocks??

Okay, so I need help. I love gymnastics. I really really, do. However, I have a meet in 1 week, and I have a serious block on my backhand spring on beam. It's like when I get up there, my body forgets how to do the skill. Also, I seriously have a mental block on my tsukahara, although this...

Front hand spring vault, mental blocks

Hi everyone! This is my first post so I hope I'm doing this right. Anyway, I used to compete level 8, then I quit for 5 years, and now I do competitive school gymnastics. I've lost most of my skills. I haven't lost my front handspring vault, but today, I had a huge block. I physically know I can...

    Mental Blocks?!

I have trouble with mental blocks. Currently, I have a mental block on connected BW BHS on beam. I can do it on the low beam and medium height beam, but when I step up on the high beam I get scared and can't do it! I need it by January! How do I get over this mental block?

    Question for coaches-mental blocks

Hi All, Maybe I just need to come to terms with this and assurances that the right thing is being done here. Our daughter had an awesome competitive season last fall... up until State, when she developed a mental block and lost a (key) skill on the floor. She went on to win one event at...

    Mental Blocks..

I've been working on my back tuck and front hand spring vault. I've had my back tuck for a year now, but I get terrified to do it. I guess I'm just afraid of landing wrong or something. As for vault, I run very slowly (to others' perspectives), but I have a very good vault. They're inconsistent...

    Blocks on beam?

Hi, Beam isn't my best event. I can't jump on beam AT ALL and I can't cartwheel for my life. I was so excited on Tuesday because I figured out a GREAT jump series (tuck-wolf) which was terrible before, but it was looking great on Tues. It was so high, pointed toes, etc. Now, I have a block...

    Mental Blocks

My daughter seems to be going thorugh "blocks" lately and I am not sure how to approach the situation. She was doing her back walkover back handsprings on the high beams with no problems (or any falls to scare her) and all of a sudden she doesn't even want to attempt them. In the same week...

For Parents BHS Beam Mental Blocks

My DD 1yr Lvl 7 worked all summer on her BHS and I have seen her practice it beautifully. It took awhile for her to have confidence. The coach used panel mats stacked up and allowed her to drop it slowly until eventually she was doing them on high beam. I have seen her do her whole routine...

    Stupid Back Tumbling Mind Blocks

Mind blocks are the death of any gymnast, and it seems to happen to the best. Last year, one of our gymnasts won Level 5 AA at state, so it would seem smart to move her up to 6: strong gymnast, good basics. Then over summer, she just decided to give up on back tumbling: WILL NOT do Round off...

    For Parents Mental blocks

We have had and I think made it through our first mental block. I was told by our coachs to not worry about it. "Everybody goes through it", "she's going to be fine". Honestly it was tough to watch. Sam has progressed very well through the years. Never really having trouble with much at...
