Looking for some advice. 3rd year level 10, previously training elite but transitioned to focus solely on level 10 in the fall. She had some acute onset of left mid to lower back pain in July that kept her from competing championships. This seemed to come on after doing multiple rounds of front ariels on the beam. She completely stopped gym for two weeks and actually transitioned to a new gym. Was seen by pediatric orthopedics with a normal X-ray. Said he would still treat like a fracture with no hyper extension and no high impact. Basically just conditioning for 6-8 weeks. She also had an MRI done in the midst of this (mid August)that was read out by Ortho as relatively normal. It did show a mild bulge at T12-L1 but orthopedics and PT have all been convinced it isn’t playing a factor in her pain. No pars fracture. Her pain always stays in the mid to lower left side with no radiation. She gradually started adding stuff back and was having some pain but was starting to show improvement and then all of a sudden she was right back where she was with the pain. She can forward tumble without any pain at all. Bars also seems to be okay without much pain. But beam and vault are almost impossible. Has been going to PT twice a week and does PT at home/gym everyday. Also sees chiropractor each week. Recently saw neurosurgeon and physiatrist whom were convinced it is one of her facets. She ended up getting a steroid injection in her facet between L3-L4. She did have immediate relief with the ability to hyperextend her back without pain. She took a few days off gym completely and just started back with minimal skills to start. She is only 4 days out from her injection and they told us it would likely take 3-7 days to see some affect and up to 14 for full affect. Just looking to see if anyone has any similar stories or advice along the way. She will follow back up with physiatrist in A few weeks. She is almost 14 and is eager to compete this season after the way her season ended in the summer.

I guess I never saw this post... any update on this?

Are they calling it this...

Yes this is what they were calling it. Pain came back within 3-4 weeks of steroid injection. Went back to peds Ortho and they are now calling it musculoskeletal and feel it may be related to her fascia and is doing myofascial release therapy. Just started this last week and only conditioning right now so hard to say if we are seeing any response yet. So frustrating! She may miss her entire season at this point. But I want her back better for the the long term!
