Dd's report time was 2pm. There were 2 gyms set up and dd's
team was in Gym A. I have no idea how many girls she competed
against as there was no score sheet. They only gave out a rooster
of everyone who was competing, their flight and the event they were
starting on, but you had no idea who was in what age group or for
that matter what the different age groups even were. Dd's team
was starting on floor - bummer, but oh well and being flight A there
were the first to go! This was one of those meets where the
competing order was set, so dd competed 3rd on every event.

Floor - Her floor was beautiful. She pretty much nailed everything,
there was a small bobble in the corner before her 3rd pass, that was
the only noticeable thing to me. My mother and my MIL were sitting
on the opposite side of the floor where the HC was and after dd
went the HC turned to my "Moms" and said this should be interesting
how they score her because her routine was flawless and the 2 girls
before dd scored a 9.35 and a 9.3. Dd's score 9.475 - 1st
place. 3rd floor routine of the whole meet and it held up.

Now onto Vault - Vault still scares the crap out of me. Her vault
is still new to her and this is by far her worst event. Warm-ups I
was half paying attention, but I did notice that when she was
flipping that she was awfully close to the table. It seems my seat
was practically on top of the vault. Her 1st vault as she was
flipping she was so close that she actually scraped her head on the
table and landed short, crunching her ankle. She gets up salutes
and you can see that she is fighting back the tears. HC talks with
her. She sets up to do 2nd vault. She goes, over rotates and lands
on her bum, gets up salutes and vault is now over! She brings down
the house with an 8.0 - no placement. There were still about 4
girls to go after her and I was watching her and she seemed to
bounce back and was smiling and talking to the other girls. As she
is walking to bars, I'm telling her don't take it to bars, go do
what you can do. I am the nervous nelly cheerleader!

Bars - Let's get right to the routine. Coach actually let her use a
springboard (Yeah!), she cast to HS, but doesn't pirouette, comes
back down and casts up again to another beautiful HS, actually does
a very nice pirouette, kips squats on jumps to high bar, does clear
hip to HS and nails the HS (she later told me she did exactly what
bars coach wants - pops and lock HS) 2 giants flyaway - stuck
landing. Beautiful routine! Score - 9.35 - 1st place

Last is beam. I am starting to relax only one more event, but it's
beam so you know how it goes. You can only relax for so long before
your heart starts to thump it's way right up your throat. I already
know that she is 3rd up. Up she goes, BT solid, switch leap small
balance check. Hokey stuff, nicely done. Series - BHS, BHS fall
right off the beam, darn it! Of course the speakers for the floor
are right there so I have no idea how she landed when she fell and
guess what she is not bouncing right up. She does get up though,
just not as quickly as I would have liked. HC has small talk with
her, HC said dd showed some drama, but she understood why. Dd
hops back up, does full turn, FHS turn and RO-BT dismount, tiny step
on dismount. A fairly good routine with the exception of the fall.
Score - 8.9 Without fall she would of had 1st place, with fall 5th
place.

AA - 35.725, good for 2nd place. Not too shabby of a score with 2
falls. One of these days she will put it all together.

After meet, HC told me that dd is a fighter. That most girls
wouldn't have gone for the 2nd vault, but she did. HC also said
that dd really wants it. Dd is not an in your face kind of
girl, but she is an ultimate competitor and does want to win. She
also said that it take a few times of competing the Yurchenko to
really get it down. She seemed very proud of dd, as was I of
course.

Dd's goal this meet was to perform well on both Vault and Bars
and as she told me, she did not do that this meet. She was happy
with herself considering the circumstances, but she too wants to
pull it all together. She also told me that she is going to
practice on Monday (today) and is really working her series on
beam. So she has her work for herself cut out for her. She does
have a Sectional this Sunday at 8:30. This is an important meet,
but as she has learned even with falls, she should have no problem
qualifying - just needs a 32 AA.

Lastly, team took 1st place. They were over 6pts ahead of the 2nd
place team, they rocked the house!

Video to come in the next day or two....

As I remember from the previous meet video, your DD has an AWESOME floor routine so I'm not surprised by her score, LOL! Your DD should have no problems w/Sectionals. (We're not in this one, we're doing the Color Games on Sat and HC didn't want 2 meets in one wkend.)

GL to your dd this weekend also.

This Sunday I am not expecting that high of a floor score. It seems that she scores much higher out of state on floor and she gets more dings in state. As long as she qualifies, that's all that matters....;)

Sounds like another very good meet for your dd! We realized this past weekend that one big difference at L8 is now vault. No yawning because everyone is doing a fhs. I'm glad the HC had my gymmie do one though and not try and throw a tsuk just yet. Boy I saw some scary vaults---very few yerchenkos were even tried. I think with it being so early in the year many coaches were playing it safe and having girls do a vault that was safe for them and would bring in a decent score to help them qualify to states. IIRC, 1st place on vault in all 3 age groups ranged from 9.1 to 9.25.

Dd sounds like a very tough little cookie out there, so no doubt she'll get that qualifying score out of sectionals(thank heavens we don't do those!). Will be anxious to see the video.

Our girls were back in the gym the morning after competing. No routines---just drills and fx endurance stuff. Guess what the bar drills were? Kip to hs, clear hip to hs and giants to flyaways. Yes, L8 is a real eye opener.

She did great. When she finally hits everything at one meet, watch out. Sounds like she really is a tough girl. It is hard to shake off those falls, especially when they really hurt. Her floor score, wow! And way to go on the bars.

I don't know how all you optional moms watch. We went to watch DDs big gym sister at her L9 meet this past weekend and YIKES. I was thankful none of them were mine. Just watching THEM made me nervous.

Thanks! I hear ya about vault. I think the winning score for vault in dd's age group was 9.275 which was her team mate doing a piked Tsuk. I am seeing that overall for these past couple of meets dd's been in that the vault score are low to mid 9s winning. If dd can just pull off a mid-8, we are thrilled! She is still in the mastering stage, so we have to brace ourselves for some crazy times.... ;)

The only good thing about the upper levels is that it is a gradual build. If they went from like level 5 to competing level 9 skills, I'd have a heart attack. But, you see them train this stuff day in and day out and know how they come get the skills and it's through tons of practice. So when I see her flip a Yurchenko in competition or do a BT on beam, I've already watched it over 100 times in practice and know for the most part she can do it. That's what saves me....;)
