Why did the defense lawyer object during Rachel’s victim impact statement?

I thought she objected because Rachel was calling her out. Rachel said her character had been questioned and that the defense lawyer accused Rachel of doing this all for the money. Rachel stated, “there is only one of us who is being paid to be here in court, there is only one of us who took selfies in the courtroom, and there is just one of us who stated to reporters that maybe she should say cheese.”

I could be mistaken but that’s why I thought the defense lawyer objected during Rachels’s statement.

Yep that’s what I saw.
They did ask for Nassar’s daughters name to be removed from the record, since Rachael used it in her testimony, but that was afterward during closing.

My suspicion is that he was linked to Sharp and Jared the subway man.

Typically a warrant like that can be obtained if someone is being charged with sexual assault like Nassar was. Especially with the information/knowledge that would have been obtained early in the investigation that Nassar had filmed treatment sessions. I don't think they were surprised by what they found, but it doesn't really mean anything about a link. It would be far easier for local law enforcement to obtain a warrant based on the initial investigation than to try to launch that kind of investigation. Once it was found it goes to FBI to investigate the source or any rings he may have been involved in.

Watched Mattie Larson's statement. I don't think I've ever had such a hard time watching anything.

Here's what gets me: even without Nassar, the ranch sounds horrific. Even if Nassar had never come along, the ranch would STILL be criminally abusive, and it would STILL be utterly revolting to know that NOBODY in the USAG leadership stepped up to say this situation wasn't acceptable.

USAG is not worth saving. I say burn it to the ground*. If USAG ceases to exist, my athletes will keep training, I'll keep coaching, and the world will keep spinning. But the idea of asking my athletes to pay membership dues to an organization which has failed this spectacularly is something I simply cannot stomach.

*metaphorically. Please don't anybody actually commit arson.

I agree. I’m hoping with the sponsors pulling out they will have no more money to pay for things and be forced to fold. Could joining the AAU and adding on the higher levels be a temporary solution?

Thank you

Seems the centralized system for elite gymnastics was a big part of the problem. Why continue to try to duplicate the system by moving and finding a new gym to replicate the ranch?

Maybe scrap the entire centralized system and just base qualifications for major international meets on performance at qualifying trials/meets.

Maybe you can argue that the centralized system is why the women are so much more successful than the men but I'd athletic success worth this type of abuse?

Yep. I never thought I'd be so glad my daughter plans on quitting at the end of the season. I do not know how I could ethically send money to this organization right now.

I’m almost afraid to ask this question, but if Larry was filming treatment and then charged with porn- is it assumed the gymnasts were in that collection of porn?

He claims his electronics were shared, and that any pornographic images (i think all were deleted and from a 4-month period in 2004) were not viewed by him. He couldn't claim that if it was images of him "treating" gymnasts.

The videos of his "treatment" were not part of the porn I understood. He still insists that this "treatment" was legit.

I've been wondering, if Larry Nassar had been charged and sentenced back in the 90's when the first victim reported him, how long would it take for people to look at the abusive culture of the upper level gymnastics world? How long would it have been before things changed......would anything have ever changed? These brave girls have not only spoken about their abuse at the hands of Nassar, but also the abuse suffered on the ranch and with different coaches. They have brought light to an abusive culture that has been operating for way too long.

As horrific as all of this has been, and the countless victims that have had to suffer, I truly believe that without all of these brave women speaking out over the last week, the abusive and reprehensible treatment of these athletes would have continued.
