Could someone please explain to me how these work. I’m new to excel but have competed igc before i moved to region 7. How do you qualify for both, if someone knows info about both excel and igc, is regionals like worlds? Is state comps similar. are the state and regional meets normally held at fun locations like how one time igc worlds was at an Orlando resort with a huge pool and slide? would love more info

Worlds is very much an IGC thing

Xcel is part of USAG. You have to qualify for states. And then regional qualification happens at states. The top 7 scorers regardless of age qualify to the state team to go to regionals. They then take an addtional number of gymnasts to the all star team for regionals. exactly how many varies by region and state. You should check those websites.

Regionals is as high as the competition season goes in Xcel. They do not have Nationals currently

It is going to depend on your state. Where we live, xcel state is hosted by a gym (not in their gym, usually in a rec center or convention center type building) and we all go there. Nothing particularly fun, but my state is not known for huge amusement parks anyways. Qualifying to state is going to depend on what your state committee sets as the standards. Here it is a minimum all around score at one meet (or a minimum event score to go as an event specialist). To qualify to regionals for the lower xcel levels it's a percent of a percent and for higher levels it's a minimum score at state. My gym doesn't do regionals for xcel, but I know they are usually hosted in my state and the location is nothing special.

No... not in my state or region... not sure about others.

Qualifying for Xcel regionals in region 7 is not as described above. Here is how you qualify which was copied directly from https://www.region7usagym.com/meets:

QUALIFICATION PROCEDURES

  1. The 2023 Xcel Regional qualifying score is a 35.00AA at the State meet OR by PREQUALIFYING (stipulations listed below) with 36.00 AA scored at any USA Gymnastics sanctioned competition during the current season, WITHOUT PETITIONING, PROVIDED they:
    1. Register for and participate in their state meet and
    2. Coaches must properly document the prequalification, in advance of the State meet
If you want info on your state meet, I would just find your state's website. I know nothing about icg so I cannot provide any info there.
We've never had a state meet at any fun location. Guess that all depends on where you live.

Also true here in Region 1.
We have allotments that are based on the number of competitors who qualify for State in each state. The final numbers aren't even released until March 31st, so we won't know who makes Regionals until after all the State scores are in.
Like, ALL of them. Because there's no minimum. So it depends on where you fall once the last AA is posted on Sunday night.
