Little Monkey fractured her foot on Jan 14th, just days before our trip to Sand Dollar, needless to say, she had to miss that meet, as well as Parkettes and the 2nd Sectional.

This Sunday she competed for the first time, 8 weeks since getting hurt, at the last Sectional before States. Coaches kept telling her "no pressure, you JUST need a 32". Of course that would not have been acceptable to LM as she was doing quite well prior to getting her injury. For the past 4 weeks, she's been allowed to ease back into doing all her skills and routines, but really had not vaulted much.

First up bars - she was the only one from our gym in a rotation with another team. The other girls all warmed up, then DD got her 2 minutes, diasterous! I was glad to see they didn't make her compete right away (sometimes that happens, last one to warm up goes first b/c bars are set for her), so she was able to rest and re-group. She hit her routine pretty well - 9.325, off to a good start (4th place)

Beam - had a good warmup, solid series, a few wobbles after her leaps & full turn 9.375 (3rd place).

Floor - Coaches made some changes to her routine this week, older DD notices she is not smiling at all - still manages to pull 9.3 which is a good for her floor- 5th place.

Vault - Coach tapes her foot because she has not been running "right" and says foot "feels" funny. Warming up, she over rotates and falls on every vault. First vault .... lands on her butt. 2nd vault - better, but not up to her usual. 8.95 5th place

So, she met her goal of qualifying for States.... and strangely, her AA (36.95) was exactly the same as her last pre-injury meet....weird!

That's great that she's back and doing so well. There's no worse feeling than sitting on the sidelines and not able to compete

Thank you. Yes, it was awful for her to sit and watch. We attended 3 meets because she didn't want to not go, but I could tell it was torturous and by the 3rd meet, I was also "done". There's only so much happiness you can dish out for teammates when your own kid is miserable!

Congratulations! How is the foot feeling today?

Foot is ok when it's taped. She says it doesn't hurt during the day, just not feeling right when she tries to run.
