Backstory: Almost three years ago I was in top physical shape, and performing at the top of my category on floor and beam (I was terrified of vault. long story). However, a bad landing on the track bent my knee in a painful way, a way I wouldn't ever want to see, and my career ended. I've been in therapy for it ever since, and I've had great days and terrible days, from being able to run miles to barely being able to climb stairs, but no consistency.

So I had physio last week and the PT said that my ligaments were about 90%, which is much better than a few months ago (it's taken two years at LEAST!) and were way better than she or anyone had expected. She also checked out my foot, which I broke a couple weeks ago, and said that it seems to be okay to train, and that she'd consult with the specialist I've been working with, as well as the on-site athletic trainer and call me with the results.

Well, she called tonight while I was at musical rehearsal (I have to do SOMETHING to keep busy!). She gave me moderate clearance to train, under supervision of an athletic trainer to make sure that my knee isn't moving strange and things aren't going back downhill.

I'm seriously ecstatic right now. For the last few months all I've been able to do is walk the treadmill at 1% decline and NO leg workouts as to prevent further damage, and now I'm finally able to get back into the gym and do a full workout. I just wish it wasn't late, or I'd be there right now. I feel like such a little kid because I'm so excited, but training was like, my entire life before I got hurt. It's just too bad it took three years to recover. But I'm still going to be working out again, which is exciting, and I can now do more than a lame treadmill walk. :)

Wait so are you just going to work out (as in exercise) more or are you going back to gymnastics?? Either way, congrats...!!!

Wow, you've really been through the mill!!! Good luck going back!

You can say that again. lol. gymfan, I'm going to work out all summer and then hopefully get back into training at a gym near school in the fall. Most likely not competing, since I stopped competing two years before my injury to focus on dance, but the facility near school has adult gym classes that are focused on tricks, as opposed to most, which focus on fitness. We'll see after the summer is over, and what my PT says. But this excellant news. Thanks for your replies!
