They have had one, and moved to a hotel to have more control over interactions. I mean, of course we all hope they get to compete, but I thought maybe the article was saying something different.

I’m surprise it’s allowed. Since 2004 ( I think) athletes have been required to stay in the village because of security concerns. Apparently they have changed the rules for Tokyo.

Related but off topic rant:

Before 2004 the female US gymnasts stayed in hotels so that the coaches, specifically Marta and Bella could have more control. There were complaints that the gymnasts did not get the true Olympic experience because they were not allowed to live in the village walk in the opening ceremonies or see other events and were flown home immediately after their even so they couldn’t even walk in the closing ceremonies. US gymnasts didn’t even stay long enough to see their teammates compete in event finals. We’re not just talking about 16 year olds, some of the gymnasts like Dawes and Miller were 18 and over.
